IMO in the context of a part in a vehicle is Immobilizer.

I have heard of that but it didn't make sense in this context. IMO is for Immobilizer.

It has arrived! The Viper 5901 was delivered to my house on Friday. It's been well over 90 degrees and insanely high humidity this weekend so I haven't really wanted to try to install it. It's still hot but just a little bit cooler today so I'm gonna attempt to start installing it. Wish me luck.

My Viper 5901 came with a "Quick Reference Install Guide," which doesn't have too much useful information and it doesn't say Viper 5901 or even Viper on it

I found this much better install guide online so I will use this one.

I am also using this guide for the Dakota wiring.

This is a much more advanced remote starter than the ones that I have installed. I have installed three, but two of them were the same model on different vehicles. I'm just gonna focus on the main ignition wiring harness first.

The Dakota wiring diagram says that these wires (starter, ignition, accessory, etc) are located in the ignition harness. Where is the ignition harness? I would think that it is the bundle going into the steering column (labeled as 1 in the pic) but I didn't see the correct colored wires in there. I did see a bundle in the back (labeled as 2 in the pic) that had some possible correct colored wires but not sure. Here's a pic.

Anyone know of an easy way to splice into the ignition wires? On my last installs, I cut the wires and soldered them back together adding the remote starter wires to it but this was a real PITA!

its the main harness the wires are bigger gauge (thicker) follow the wire harness from the right side of the column use a meter or a good test light strip the wire and then polk the test light through the wire open it up then strip the wire from the harness of the alarm then put the alarm wire in the hole you made with the test light twist around then tape up and zip tie it. be careful if you soldered the wires you could apply to much heat

I'm still having trouble finding the thicker gauge wires. (What's the proper term, possibly lower gauge?? cuz the lower the number the thicker the wire?) I started to probe the bundle of wires coming from the steering column (labeled as 1 in the pic from my last post) today and I found some of the proper wires but they are higher gauge (skinnier) wires. I like your idea of splitting them and pushing the remote starter wires through the middle but I need to find the lower gauge (thicker) wires to do that.

Here's a pic of the steering column. The bundle labeled as 1 is going into the ignition key and I did find some of the proper wires in this bundle but they are high gauge (skinnier). http://i51.tinypic.com/bhfy4w.png

I would rather solder the connections. I don't like the idea of t-taps and have heard bad things about them.

Thanks, I wish I lived closer.

Hmmm... this video looks familiar. I'm pretty sure it came on a VHS with my first remote starter by Directed Electronics.
