Default Power Wire How-To

OK, This is my first post on a how to, I can't find if the homemade power wire has been documented this way. So here goes:

IAT installed in the cold air intake tube:

This is the wire you splice the resistor into. Green/Blue:

I cut the whole IAT sensor out because I needed to extend all the wires, you may not have to do this depending on how much slack you have in the wiring:

Installed male/female insulated connectors on the IAT wires and the 4.7 k ohm resistor:

Heat shrink tubing on the resistor:

Put more heat shrink over the connectors and resistor:

Finished product with an extension wire on the other lead using a butt splice that I also used heat shrink tubing on.

Re-installed IAT with resistor and extension wire:

Wrapped everything in electrical tap:

I can't believe you guys are still screwing around with resistors.....

To trick yourself into thinking you have more power.

yep...it's all about the thought process....you think you have more power....magically you have more power....resistors just make it seem so real! You should try it! It's like when you disconnect your battery to reset the PCM.....automatic 25 hp increase. .

Kent, you also need some bedstripes. Those help a lot. Id put some on my truck, but I wouldn't be able to keep tires on the beast then.

The power wire mode alters the value of you air intake temp to read 20 degrees cooler which will make the fuel mixture richer at WOT. This mod has no affect on the truck at any other time.

BZZZZZT!!
Wrong!

It effects the intake temp reading all the time. The resistor changes the value that the PCM sees all the time so it effects the fueling 100% of the time, making you run richer 100% of the time, though the PCM will probably compensate up to a point through closed loop fueling control.

Seriously resistor tricks don't work, at least not enough to make it worth while. The only true way to get any power increase out of altering fueling controlled by the PCM is to actually tune the PCM.

I've been around cars for a few decades now, I've tried resistor tricks myself and found that they really did nothing.

Only going off what I have read:

"Your O2 sensors keep your Air Fuel ratio nailed to 14.75:1 at all throttle positions except Wide Open Throttle (WOT) so the POWER WIRE can NOT cause you to run rich during normal driving because no matter what the AFR will be 14.75:1." www.airram.com

And also,

Because of this the POWER WIRE will richen you up approximaltey 1 full point which is great if you have LONG TUBES and other mods that tend to make you run lean. We mainly advertise it as a POWER MOD untill recently. over the last few months we have been getting countless reports from customers who actualy see gains of 1-2MPG after adding the POWE WIRE.... so we started pointing out that increase feul economey is also a common side effect under a light foot.

SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM
Not trying to start a war here, just backing up what I have stated above.
