Don't know about that. I used the "tow tune" and the truck ran like a top { 87 octane} It pulled a 20ft trailer, loaded with no problem, up hill passing cars. The 91 tune you have to run 91 octane or the motor starts to miss and lope.
I didn't see any where that said you have to run 91 octane for the tow tune, but the 91 tune says you should.

OK I just found a thread on Superchips Forums verifying what I said. https://www.superchips.com/forum/vie...t=7219&start=0 Its talking about the Cortex 3950 on a Hemi, but the 4.7 is still grouped in with the 5.7s - Dodge Gas Truck Models and still uses that same tuner just with different options. There should be a prompt telling you to use 91 Octane like I was saying.
Now with the tuner you can adjust the idle if you would like, but increasing the idle like you are saying, to me, would only build heat in the trans when you were sitting still and burn more fuel.

The towing tune suggest you run 91 octane when you tune the truck. I have run it on 87, and I got horrible gas mileage pulling a trailer of wood pellets. My truck likes higher octane anyway, due to some modifications I have made. lower octane will "ping" when you start to advance timing and increase engine load. Higher octane will reduce pinging and pre-detonation.

I use the 3865 SC and if I remember right { only used it once so far} I don't recall it saying anything about using 91 when I put in the tune. I pulled off the ferry and up the upper levels, loaded trailor and the hill is quit steep, not sure of grade, I think 6 or 8%, I passed cars when needed with no problem and no ping at all. It felt like it changed where the trans shifted and the shifts were smoother. Next time I put it in I'll try and look to see if it says anything about what octane to use.
