Default Question about Headers for 07 4.7l flex fuel

I am new to the forum, and have tried to use the search feature, but cant seem to find what i am looking for. I just purchased a 07 dakota and in the near future was planning on installing some headers but i seem to be finding a hard time on multiple websites finding headers for the 07 dakota, why is this? also does anyone know where i can find some? would i need to have some type of programing done after installing headers? what all would it involve? i want to put on aftermarket headers and exhaust (not sure which brand i want to go with yet) and eventually CIA also, but first want to work on headers and exhaust, just woundering if i would need to get it tuned again after installing headers and what is involved with it. and if someone could help me finding some headers that would fit my 07 4.7l dakota flex fuel. thanks for the help.

First let me say welcome to DF and the G3 Dakota section.

You won't need any type of tuning to run headers. I have an 05 and I've been using JBA Headers for over four years now. Trucky has Gibson headers on his and his was a little more difficult to install as he is 4x4, lol. If the bolt pattern for the exhaust on the 07 4.7L is the same as the 05/06 they should fit.

Here is the cheapest price that I was able to find for the JBA headers.

Great find Eimer, when I bought mine in 2006 I believe I paid around 450$ or so.

thanks for the responses. yea that is one of the few headers i have been able to find. by going by my fathers experience with cars which dates back when he was my age customizing cars, told me that he had heard for headers to be "true" headers each pipe coming from them should be the same length, where the JBA are not....is this true or stupid? I am still learning i have no clue.

It all depends. "True" headers are all supposed to be the same length, but now a days with fuel injection I'm not sure it really matters.

True equal length long tube headers would be best. But most headers these days are more designed to smooth out the exhaust flow and optimize exhaust gas scavegine which in turn gives better power.

Long tubes would be awesome... but I dont believe anyone has made em yet for us... we just have shorties. You are correct about the design too
