Helper springs? Anyone have em?
Going to probably buy parents RV. It's 3360 dry weight, 5580lbs full weight.
I know that my truck, according to specs, can pull it.
BUT
To be comfortable doing so, I was looking at a 1500lb helper spring. It seems that with the fiberglass cover, my truck seems slightly low int he back anyways, so i'll probably leave it all on year round.
I dunno, what you guys think?
Oh, the cap stays... I work in areas where i need to lock my tools in the back of the truck... it's the best mod i've ever not had to do.
Also going to be redoing my intake and doing something with the exhaust, but question is for the helper springs...

Yea, its all really depends on how much tongue weight the trailer has. If its pretty well balanced you might not need them. Only way to tell is load the trailer and see how much you sag.
I run 1500 lb helper springs all year round. Its nice because it stiffins the back end, and great for towing. When I throw 240lbs of sandbags in the bed, the rear only compresses 1 cm, lol. But be ready for corners over washboard road conditions...it gets a little slideways.

I went crazy this winter and bought a 30 foot travel trailer, mostly to leave parked on my land and pull once in awhile for camping.... but I still needed to get it home. It has an empty weight of 6000 lbs, I don't know what the tongue weigh is, it is a tandem axle.
The Dakota handled it really well, I have an 06 TRX. It really sagged. I was really cautious when I first started out but it was stable down the road, plenty of power and brakes, even though the trailer brakes weren't working (something I need to work on.) I am buying a load leveler hitch from a friend. If that doesn't do the trick to level it out I'll add a set of helper springs.
I carry two dirtbikes (260 lbs each) plus gear around often, it doesn't sag much but it does sway a little going down the road. Helper springs would help here too.
I'm concerned if I add helpers that it may make it more jittery on washboard roads.
