Well remember too that the 300hp that the motor is rated at is at the crank, so probably about 260rwhp.

Edit: And blown beat me to it.

The 545-rfe transmission usually equals 20% loss from crank to wheels. The new 4.7L will probably dyno in around 245 rwhp. The old 4.7L rated for 235 usually dyno in at 175 rwhp stock.

so between superchips, cai and duals/lower restriction exhaust, is it feasable to have right around 200 HP at the wheels on an 05-07?

I'm running the 93 tune in my 08, it was a night and day difference compared to the stock tune (and a world apart from the previous version 4.7L that I test drove). You don't get the low end torque of the hemi, the 4.7 needs the high rpms to match the pushrod v8 power.

Compared to my old 5.9L R/T that dynoed at 300hp (13.0 @ 105 1/4 mile) it feels much slower off the line but pretty much equal on the top end. I'm very happy with the power, just added the fastman throttle body last week and it improved the mid-upper rpm powerband even more. BTW I didn't know the throttle bodies are now plastic.

Brother if you get a chance please get a dyno and post up the sheets. I would love to see what what kind of numbers it puts down. I'm considering forging a new 08+ 4.7L and swapping it out for my old 4.7L. Honestly, I can't decide, lol.

Wow, there are plastic intake manifolds but this is the first time I've heard of a plastic throttle body.

In my '05 4.7L 2wd - The 87 octane tune seemed to add a decent amount of power and a major improvement in shifting. I had some time to try the performance and towing tunes yesterday. All I could feel/see diferent was off the line from a stop - the towing tune allowed the tires (LSD) to spin for 8-10 feet, with the performance tune, they spun for maybe 6 feet. There was so little difference after that that I couldn't feel any difference. I think that when I'm not towing anything I'll use the 87 octane tune. The gas mileage was slightly better than stock also.

Plastic seems odd...

I am a huge fan of the Tow Tune, I think its the best all around tune... I run it daily. Its a beast under load too with a trailer behind it.

just check the sites that sell them, sometimes they run coupons/specials. I got mine at autoanything when superchips was offering a $25 discount. I think amazon has them too, just have to catch a vendor at the right time when they are running specials or offering coupons, discounts and stuff. No one place is really better that another when it comes to buying one, IMO, it's just whoever has the lowest cost.

yeah well its kinda sad that the new 08 dakota are only throwing down 40 more HP then we are...so with superchips tuner, exhaust, electric fan, TB, headers we are putting down more power! lol
