a lift can be done....
Canadian Dakota referred me to the forum....we have been talking about ideas oh how you can lift a dakota
A friend of mine wanted to do a lift on his dakota...I think its an 05 or 06....at first we were thinking of cutting the suspension off of a 2wd hemi ram I have and trying to make it work so an aftermarket lift kit could be purchased.....then he saw a dakota on ebay with an SAS swap and fell in love....I dont know what he wants to do now since he hasnt talked about it for a while.....maybe it hit him that its gonna take $, time, and his truck will be down for a while
But I looked at the front suspension one day and its very similar to the Ram suspension....and if you take ideas from manufactures who mass produce kits a dakota lift could be done...I just installed a "Skyjacker"(which was horrible btw) lift on a 2010 F150 at work....and essentially you could follow the same idea....new k members which lower the Lower A Arm about 6"s and then it comes with taller knuckles.....lower the diff to help CV angles....but all this does is push the suspension away from the truck opening up the wheel well for bigger tires...there is very little to no gain in travel.....Longer A arms would be needed for more travel...then longer axle shafts......but you guys probly knew all that all ready I remember reading a thread that a guy in Vegas was fabing his own suspension....
I would be more than happy to try on my friends dakota and see if a lift can be manufactured...BUT it takes time, resources and $.....and being in college it doesnt help any of that...
Bottom line I think a lift for a dakota CAN be done! Just my .02
