Default Broken Front Diff (pics included)

so what am i in for, am i better off to replace the whole axle and driveshaft? the driveshaft looks all twisted at the front diff end. or just replace the diff housing? Possible front gear damage? Was stuck and doing some brake modulation to get unstuck and pop. Would crawl up under for better pics but its some -40 out with windchill.
What do you think the average shop time will be for a job like this, as its going to be freezing in my neck of the woods until June or so

Damn... looks like it could have been cold enough to change the temper of the steel to make it crack like that so easily.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Damn, that sucks. I sure hope you A) don't need 4x4 soon and B) get everything fixed and it works out for the best. Good Luck!

nope not under any kind of warranty, anyone know what year front end diffs are exchangeable on the daks? gonna go check out the local wreckers. Found a local shop that can be rented for $30 a day so gonna go with that option. Gonna fix up the front, the TC is still under warranty so im not worrying about that. The drive shaft is still straight the flange part is broken at the diff. Front axles are intact.
