Default Thump sound accelerating from stop,2005 dodge dakota

hello,

I am a newbee from the forum, I just bought a used 2005 dodge dakota slt(3.7 L) from IL. I am looking forward for this positive forum and the future.

I noticed when the truck accelerate from complete stop(stop light, stop sign, etc.) i can feel Tug or Tump under neat also before doing a complete stop.. When its moving its fine.. some say lubricate the drive shaft assemly but i can not find grease fittings along the the drive shaft..

I saw 2 rectangular good rubber mounts between the shaft and trans..not sure if this the trans mount... Do you think the truck have bad transmission or engine mount? any suggestion will help..
Thanks....

Welcome aboard maskulado! I'm sure a Technician will jump in shortly. In the meantime, don't forget to browse Sub-Forums: Dakota for stuff related to your ride.

welcome to the forum! I would say start by checking some basics before blaming the trans or mounts. You could have a brake sticking since it only does it on acceleration from a stop...can you hear anything when it does it or is it just a feel?

I can not hear anything, just felt the TUG.. If I make a partial stop and let the wheel to roll a bit then accelerate there is no Tug...

Is the thump a metallic sounding thump? Could be a u-joint...

Try setting your parking brake, then drive forward/backward.
The rear shoes tend to stick on 2005 models (they improved the design in 2006).

Not sure if this will help with the clunk, but may with the surge..

rear drum or disk .. I had a 99dakota that I had to replace the rear wheel cylinders - they would stick, check your trans fluid level too .. I'd also look over all the mounts since you are going to be crawling around under the truck anyway .. it is about 7yrs old.
