Default dealer oil?

So does any one know what oil brand dodge dealers use when they change the motor oil? Do they use the cheap crap like a jiffy lube would use?Im assuming they use the right weight and viscosity? Im very biased against jiffy lube, master lube, ect, ect... I was thinking i might switch to Castrol w/a K&N filter if the dealer is cheaping out. My 2006 V8 dak has 56,000 miles currently and when i asked about switching to synthetic at 42,000 my service advisor said its too late to switch over and it could make the engine leak past the seals.

Any one know which oil they use, and also about switching to synthetic?

I switched switched over to part synthetic at 40,000, then Full Synthetic at 48,000. Sitting at 72,000 now, no issues. I cannot see you having a issue.

According to the guys at my local dealership Mopar Oil is just Shell oil which is what most dealers probably use. Unless its different down in the states I know the dealers up here use the Mopar stuff unless asked to use something else by their customers.

We use Penzoil currently, even for penzoil ATF.
But our suppliers changes from times to time, we've experienced with Shell, Penzoil, Valvoline, Mobil, and UNKNOWN.

As for Filter, I wouldn't mind staying with OEM filter. I recommend buy a dozen online to save money. K&N and Mobil 1 oil filter not worth the money.
here is a thread started by a Toyota owner, he opened up many popular oil filter and did comparison.

I use synthetic, But to justify the cost of it, I stretch to 5000 miles oil change interval instead of 3000. 65k miles later, I lose less than half qt of oil every 5k miles.
You could go sythetic with no problem, there is no disadvantage except higher cost.

The only way it will leak past the seals is if there are leaks there already. Yes, people sometimes discover leaks when first switching to synthetic as synthetic molecules are finer, which is one of the reasons it provides better lubrication. It's never really too late to goto a full synthetic.

wow, all of this is very interesting. I usually have the dealer change the oil every 3500 miles, and i just might start switch over to castrol synthetic (im a fan of castrol). I dont have any problems with leaks on my truck so hopefully it will stay leak free if i switch over. That link of the oil filter taken apart is eye opening, although i never did like Fram. Maybe ill just stick with the genuine mopar filter or go with the trusty K&N (purolator). That Bosch filter looks like it could be good too.

The major probs with the Frams is the leaf spring can fail...with the MOPAR, Mobile1, or WIX filters they use a coil spring, which is much more dependable.

I prefer a Wix or NAPA Gold Filter (NAPA filters are rebranded WIX filters)

Thats not much of a stretch. I've been going to at least 10,000. Unless you're doing a lot of severe stuff like towing or something sounds like you're short changing yourself.
