To me, anti lock on the rear only seems like a dumb decision. You certainly don't want the front wheels to lock up - you lose your steering when the front wheels stop rotating.

The rear ABS should work but you won't notice it without front ABS too, until you have to slam on the brakes on dry pavement. Usually (i stress usually) front discs won't lock under heavy braking on dry roads, but for a truck the rear will about 90% of the time. Having just rear ABS does a couple things, keeps the rear of the truck where it is, and saves your tires from flat spots if you have to make an oh **** maneuver.

My personal opinion, they reaeeaally robbed us blind with this one, all the people who bought these new could have been told it has ABS with total honesty, without needing to specify that it's just in the rear. They are ******** for not making a standard option, but even more-so for not making it a clear "yes/no" for those who bought them new.

Does anyone have the real full fledged ABS option on their truck? I see a lot of people without it, makes me wonder.

My rear ABS works just fine on my 05. I feel it every snow, but only when I spin the rear wheels and hit the brake, Never felt a thing while driving and the wheels lock up.

I've felt my pedal pulsate from ABS in snow and also on the highway once when I slammed on my brakes..not trying to change the subject but my Dakota is simply not good in the snow. We had a quick inch of snow fall lastnight and when I drove the girlfriend home around midnight my truck was losing traction while turning in 4HI..I'm pretty upset with the 4X4 on these trucks especially after having a new transfer case installed last winter under warranty. The problem may be my tires though..I have Firestone Destination AT's 245/70/16's and they don't have too much tread left on them. Who knows, I plow every time there is a storm but don't us my truck so its not too big of a deal.

My rear abs works just fine. In fact, without it, driving in the snow would be downright dangerous. Have you ever rode a bike and locked up the rear tire on it? If you are going anthing but straight, that back tire slips out from under you. In a truck, that back end will come around on you in a heart beat without rear abs. Remember though, if you are in 4-lock, and you lock up your front wheels, rear abs wont help you as all wheels will be locked by the front brakes.

4-wheel abs was an option on these trucks, normally found on the Laramies and other higher models. When you go to purchase front wheel hubs, you would need to know if you have 4-wheel abs.
