Barry, if you are running over a 265/70/16, which it sounds like you are, then getting a programmer (Superchips, Hypertech) would be the easiest way. Hypertech makes a speedo-calibrator #752501 that you may want to look at, if you decide that you do not want the advantages of also having the more aggressive tunes.
I did have to trim an inch or so from the corners on the front, and instead of cutting the splash guard, I tied it back with some zipties. I have only had to replace one in 100k miles. I get a little rub at full lock, and while going over bumps, but it is minor.
So, what about breakage? I have replaced lower ball joints (with moogs) once, outer tie rod ends once, swawbar bushings twice, struts twice, and I am on my seventh set of end links. I have also done both rear wheel bearings and my aft carrier bearings twice. I need to replace the upper control arms too, but the mechanic says that it isn't critical. The only parts that are not normal wear and tear are the end links, the lift EATS them. If I could find some that were about an inch longer, I'd be perfect.
I have been halfway looking for 20" ram rims, but every set in my area has been made of gold (pricey) or trashed.
Which brings me to the reason that I quoted the above. I have the superchips programmer and I have been absolutely unsuccessful in getting it to reprogram the tire size. Failure Every Single Time. I opened a case with superchips and they were unable to get it to work either, although they insisted that it should.
Start a new thread for your questions, or hopefully a mod can move this for you.
Has anyone tried the Performance Accessories 5" lift? I have a '11 4wd Laramie and just picked up this kit for $360 on Amazon.
It's a 2" spacer lift, a 3" body lift, and gap guards.
I'm thinking once I get it on, I'll go with 275/70-18 on my stock rims. They appear that they are a little narrower, but a hair taller than the 275/65-18 shown at the beginning of this.
Anyone know if that will work without a bunch of trimming??

Can someone explain to me why adding a 3" body lift to a 2" suspension doesn't change anything on what size you can put on for tires??
Seems like if a 2" spacer lift will allow 32" tires, adding another 3" of body lift would certainly allow at least another inch or more of tire size??
Am I missing something?

Keep in mind, if you reduce your factory backspacing...prepare for additional trimming. Also, consider tire choice (A/Ts and M/Ts will require a little more trimming)

I would suggest that it isn't just the height of the tire, it is also the "length" of the tire (front to back). You are raising the top of the fender, but you aren't spreading the width of the fender opening. You still have to turn that tire within the width of the fender.
The biggest problem you run into is Fender Wells on both front and back will rub when you turn , and on the rear if you compress the suspension enough you can get into the actual fender edge. You can tie or trim the fender well, but the rear is more difficult.
ALSO PLEASE ADD:
STOCK RAM 1500 20" rims with STOCK 275/60r20 will fit in the same space as 285/70r17, with a 2" level spacer up front, some trimming if the wheel well, and 2" in back (no body lift)
This is a bit superfluous, but I just swapped out to 275/55r20 Duratracs, and ALL of my rub went away. They are (obviously) a tad shorter, but the speedo is closer to correct (still about 5% low).
