The device will first upload your stock tune before writing the options you select so if something goes wrong with the upload then you can reload the stock tune. I haven't heard of anyone having problems.

I love the 91 tune, I think it's worth it. You can use it with the Superchips shift schedule, stock, or your own. The Superchips schedule is really nice, keeps you feeling that low end grunt for longer. I have tried both the superchips trans tune and stock trans tune with 91 and I feel the difference even with stock trans tune. Just more grunt all around, not much more, but enough that I couldn't drive without it.

it can take about 5-10 minutes. I stores your file first, then writes 2 files to the PCM.

You can change your shift points manually. So you can decide if it should shift at a certain speed based of throttle position. You can also change the torque management for harder or softer shifts. The 3 options are Superchips, Stock and User. User is the one where you can change shift points, but you can change the torque management on the superchips and stock tune if you want. I was never able to find a sweet spot in the custom schedule, so I run stock with torque management at 8%. Sometimes I put the Superchips shift schedule on for that racey feel.

The user shift schedule can only be set when you purchase the 'trans tuning' for $40. (This thread will explain what that's all about.) There are other settings along with the trans tuning option, particularly torque management, but you really need to read about it before you try a User Shift Schedule. I'm running the Superchips schedule, using the 87 tune, no complaints at all.

But you will have to update the programmer when you get it, you'll really enjoy that (Not!).

So after the initial pain in the *** update, it's easy? Essentially it's plug and wait, and then play?

Follow the on-screen prompts. So easy a caveman can do it. I purchased the trans tuning package with mine and made a custom shift schedule (in the link Dakotaff provided). I ran that with the 87 performance tune and really liked it, however, I decided to give the tow tune a try with the canned trans shifty schedule with the tow tune and it blew mine out of the water. I recommend just using the canned trans tunes with the tunes already on the programmer. Everyone has their own opinions, but I found the tow tune to be the best all around tune package for my style of driving. I tried the 91 as well, but didn't notice that big of a difference between that and the tow tune, except I had some pinging with the 91 tune even using 93 octane gas (we dont have 91 around here). I was able to use the tow tune with regular 87 octane gas with no problems.

I heard the tow tune knocks your gas mileage down though. And i can just download the shift tube off superchips?

When you're all set to program your truck, simply load up the 87 tune at first. The super chips shift schedule will load along with it. Then later if you want, try the tow or 93 tunes. Its super easy to load the tunes, only takes a couple of minutes.

And before you ask about the mileage saver tune, don't bother with it. The shifting sucks and it doesn't save any gas.

Mileage gains will be totally dependant on your driving style. If you can install a tune and drive like grandma, you might see some gains with any of these tunes BUT most users will report that any tune will make your mileage worse because your foot will always be on the gas once you feel how these things wake your truck up. You will not believe the difference these tuners make in how these trucks behave.

The transmission tuning package can be downloaded from superchips for $40. As previously mentioned, I would not recommend payng the extra for the trans tuning package. The canned tunes are very good as they are. Only thing the trans tuning is good for imo, is turning down torque management so your shifts are harder, though in my truck it did not seem to make that big of a difference.

The tow tune and superchips shift schedule is the only tune I use. I feel the other three dont perform all around. The mileage tune sucks both performance wise and mileage wise, the 87 tune is ok just no guts in the mid range and the 91 tune makes me feel like I have to constantly beat the truck to make any power. The tow tune is a modified 91 tune or so what I have researched. It'll get mileage as low at 13.5 and as high as 21.5 depending on your right foot, or at least this is what I have experienced. To me the tow tune has power throughout the entire range. Hook it to a trailer and it's a beast as well.
