Default 06 4.7L HO Cooler thermostat

two questions:

1. has anyone tried a cooler thermostat on an 05-06 4.7L HO??

2. Where the heck would it be?? I looked yesterday, normally an upper radiator hose would go into the top of a motor where the thermo would be, but my 06 4.7LHO has the upper hose going directly into the water pump, that's how it looks anyway. My 02 4.7L was configured that I could at least see where the thermo housing was.

any help is appreciated. thanks

Its in the lower hose and they dont make anything cooler yet. Although I pulled mine and drilled some 3/16" holes in it and put it back. Much much cooler now, works awesome.

Go to your NAPA parts store and ask for a NAPA 180 degree SUPERSTAT part# 530080 this will work in the 05 4.7 and the 06 if the orginial is the same as the 05. I put mine in two weeks ago works great. No need to drill any holes. You do need to put a notch on the edge to match the orginial stat so the gasket will fit correctly. Use the orginial gasket or get a replacement gasket from the dodge dealer. Thermostat cost $7.00. Good luck.

you drill on each side of the plunger hole on the outside of the lip. wouldnt put anymore than 3, like in a triangle shape around the hole.
just look at where the t-stat sits in the housing and you can figure it out. also helps when refilling fluid, by letting air by. just dont drill where the plunger is in the middle, just to the outside of it. sorry dont want anybody getting the wrong idea and then blaming it on me.

Not to sound too ignorant, but what exactly does drilling do to make it run cooler? We were talking about that today at work. The only thing we came up with is that it works...

well a few guys have told me this and the guy at rpm outlet, but dont do it and heres why. Apparently the computer on these things measures how fast the coolant heats as well as the air temp. Well mine was running so cool that it was throwing the check engine light off. I think the napa idea might be best at this point. I have to pull this one again so im gonna go get one of those.
