RE: setup for new dodge
If your really bent on a dakota, for towing, opt for the 4.7 HO (high output) motor. Its a bit more expensive, but it'll be worth it. That setup will give you the 3.92 rear end with the 5 speed trans. Best set up the dakota has to offer for towing/power. It actually puts the dakota into full size territory, and suprasses the Toyota Tundra ha ha ha. I see you want to get a sport, if you really wanna dress it up and have the cash, try to get one with the Dakota Appearance Package.

RE: setup for new dodge
Well the trailer tow group includes the HD service group, as well as a bunch of other goodies.

4.7=230 hp 290 ft/lbs 4.7 H.O.=260 hp 310 ft/lbs

You only get the higher output numbers on the 4.7 H.O. when you run Premium fuel though

You don't have to run Premium, but you get less performance when you use regular unleaded gas

And I put 4.10 gears in my truck (from 3.55) and it would be perfect for towing (though I don't).....doing 70mph the RPMS are at about 2300-2400 (2WD). So the 3.92 gears will get the job done for you.

On the new Dakotas they also have a Tow/Haul mode (on the auto shifter) now anyways, which changes the shift points as well for towing.

The "heavy duty service group" automatically comes with the Tow package, by the way

You are correct, you can't. If you want the manual trans you have to have the 3.55 (which sucks)...and you can only get it on the ST or SLT, not the Laramie. Also, the 4.7 HO is not available with the manual trans, only the 4.7 (which is what you want anyways i take it?)

RE: setup for new dodge
Yeah....if you want 3.92 gears (from the factory).....you gotta have the automatic tranny

Now your only decision is if you want the 4.7 or the 4.7 H.O.
