The fan draws HP from the engine. However I would not reccommend removing it. Vehicles can run hot in the winter as well. I believe you can safely remove the fan if you add an electric fan with a sensor that will turn it on and off. I would suggest you leave it alone, the Dak will never be a hot rod truck. I do have to agree it is a noisy fan tho when you start up.

A lot of people do this because of power issues plus more mpg's and less noise. The 1st gen Durangos and 2nd gen Dak's can have a viper fan swapped right in with some wiring and some other minor mods. I am going to do it myself since my Durangos clutch fan is going out anyway, might as well get some power back for an extra 150-200 bucks...

How would someone find and remove a clutch fan on their truck?

Any one got a good set of pictures, or a walk through?

its fairly simple, i began the work myself...removing the fan guard with the stupid plastic screws...wrench out a cupple nuts... then reach down and undo the 4 fan bolts...this is complicated, and i stripped the last one, and now im stuck...cuz i cant get it off.

Removing your clutch fan is looking for trouble. This is designed to turn the fan when it is needed. the fan turns of and free wheels at highway speeds. Hiway is when you don't need extra cooling from your fan.
