gas prices
Shouldn't you set the tip at a full tank, drivetil whenever, then fill up and divide what you put in by what you drove? Because the way you do it isn't as accurate if you set the trip after you fill up then divide what you orginally put inby what you drove....I hope I wasn't too confusing...

I would agree with twice as much... I was just giving him crap about the three times as much. Sheeesh tough crowd...
I calculate my MPG by filling up when the needle hits 1/4... seeing how much gas it takes to fill to the stop. resetting my trip and dividing miles driven by gas put in... I get an average 0f 21, worst case of 18 and 23 consistantly...

Some vehicles get better MPG than the exact same other vehicle like that. My last car I was getting 30 MPG all around while the highway was rated at 29 MPG. Most of the other people with the same car as mewere getting 21 - 23 so it is possible.
you can have two trucks, equipped identically, with two drivers who weigh exactly the same, and you're still going to get different MPGs between the two because both drivers just drive differently. i might have a heavier foot than eric or vice versa...that can account for much of the MPG differences that we see.
it's also true that two identical trucks can just perform differently just because of slight differences in assembly, tire inflation, etc. there's so many variables that go into MPGs that it's really hard to control for everything and deduce exactly what's causing you to gain/lose MPGs.
personally, i have a CC with the V-8 and a stick shift and i get 16-18 mpg per tank.

Yeah, I drive like a granny... but I also have an intake, chip, and thermostat installed. (the stat will not make a diff in MPG)
but I keep my tires rotated/proper PSI, run synthetic fluids, and drive like I have to pay for my gas. lol.
When I am hard on it, I can watch the needle drop. Like when I went drift busting, I prolly didn't get better than 14 MPG if that. but by driving like I do, I get great mileage.
Another thing about the V6's in these trucks... no matter what way you split it, you have to pull a heavy truck around. I dont have to work as hard to gain momentum as a V6.

You are a granny...
I have a heavy foot for the most part. This morning on my way in, I actually hit about 78 mph without noticing it. I still haven't gotten used to the new TB.
If I drive on the main roads or in town, I slow down, but again, with the new TB, it jumps if I sneeze.

It's also true that people like to exagerate about their vehicle. Everyone wants their's to be that special one from the factory. They exagerate mpg, performance, etc. Not saying that it's not possible for so and so toaverage 23 mpg in a QC V8 4WD Dakota, I'm just it's not likely.
I probably have one of the most ideal commutes to work each day (condusive to increased mpg). I drive 62.5 miles each way. I drive 2 miles to get to the highway and 1 mile once I get off to get to the office. I normally drive between 65 and 70 mph. I don't floor the truck to get on or off the highway, etc. I live at around sea level. It's a very easy commute. I check my tire pressure 2-3 times per week. I've never gotten better than 19-20 mpgas an average over a tank of gas. That's what makes it hard for me to believe a loaded V8 QC Dakota would average better than 3-4 mpg consistantly per tank over what I average based upon my driving habits.
Again, not saying it's not possble...just not likely.

i drive with a moderate to heavy foot, but most of my driving is on the PA turnpike, so, with the cruise on, i'm able to stay pretty well reigned in. i usually keep it from 65 (construction zones, of which i drive through three regularly) and 68-72 outside of the construction zones. that highway driving allows me to have such a decent mpg, because when i'm around town, though, i like to get on it a little bit.
when i'm towing, i get 11 mpg, maybe. that's highway.
i run synthetic oil, and, well, as we discussed below, i'm still working on the financing for some of these other mods.

My truck gets 100 mpgs on the highway, and 20 in the city.... J/K. They're suppose to be coming out with strictor laws with the hybrids and the rest of the vehicles either in 2008 or 09, making them do real driving in real weather conditions on both highway and city traveling. They found that the hybrids are claiming to be more than they are so they can make sales.
When I had my 2.0 4-banger, I couldn't even get to 350 miles per tank on the highway. The car before that, had a V6 and I could get 400 miles on one tank on the highway and they both had 16 gallon tanks.
With the 6's vs the 8's in the QC's, you'll get the same mileage because of the weight. I'm not sure, but I think you'd get better mileage with the 6's in the CC.
