Default 2014 Durango 2nd row center console removal

Hello all,
I was $600 away from buying a black on black 2014 R/T fully loaded minus technology group option today, but did not pull the trigger due to the optional center console being there. I want my kids to be able to get to the 3rd row easily. Has anyone removed the console, what is under there?

When is the Durango going to be phased out? That's a shame the 2014 is seriously amazing.

1st post btw
I have over 10,000 posts on corvetteforum, I look forward to years on here

Thanks, that's the standard console. The one I was close to buying had the upgraded one with lit up cup holders, etc. Looks like I could possibly remove the upgraded one and buy the standard piece and install. Do you have a total list price for the parts on the standard console? Thanks!

humyz,

If you end up getting it, any interest in selling the console? We just bought a '14 SXT without the 2nd row console, and I wish we had it.

I understand there are quite a few issues with retro-fitting the storage console, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

PM me if you want to discuss selling it...

thanks,
-Greg

Why don't you guy just trade items? Seems like a way both parties can be satisfied.

Sorry, I breezed right by the other one in the service info. Here ya go. You may discover that the floor bracket is the same on both models. I haven't had both types out of a 2014 yet. You could both take your consoles out and trade pics...? If I had to guess, the large console mounts to a metal frame bracket that screws into the 4 holes that the mini concole mounts to.

REAR FULL

  1. Using a Trim Stick C-4755 or equivalent, remove the trim caps (1) from the console (2).
  2. Remove the screws (3) and separate the console (2).
  3. Position aside the console (3) and disconnect the electrical connector (4).
  4. Remove the console (3).

You will loose some of your fold down space in the second row. You won't miss it until it's gone

Not sure what you mean, are you saying that the captain chairs won't fold up/forward if the center console is not upgraded? I would think the chairs would be fully removable

I have to find one without the console, because the captain chairs would not have arm rests if I did a swap. I am feeling alot better about walking away from that deal yesterday.

Arm rests attached to chairs

No arm rest attached to chairs

Wow, such a beautiful truck

Yeah, a trade would be great... but not fair. The console is a $300 add on from the factory but it's over $1000 if you buy it after the fact. Kinda crazy. And the armrest is the main installation problem. They get in the way of the lid.
