Default Highway Gas Mileage

Went on short trip on Freeway, 23 miles, Set cruise at 70 Mph.

Gas up and cleared all gages, Came back at 19.5 MPG, Is this Normal?

Have 2011 Durango Hemi R/T. 30,000.miles. Tires Pressures set at 39 Cold.
Like the ride a little stiff. Use 89 Octane Gas.

Love this SUV, Had it since July.

Thanks for all Replies!

That is really good mileage
I dont know where you are located but if it is a cold area and they use winter blended gasoline, That is really good. My D has dropped to 16mpg highway since the blend has changed at station.

Just drove 440 mile round trip. Got 17.7 going 75mph on the way there and got 16.8 coming back at 78 mph. Also some slower speeds with traffic and also a 2 lane for about 70 miles. I used adaptive cruise control. Used 87 on the way there and 89 on the ride back. 5300 miles on the Hemi

My D is getting about 18.5 on the highway according to the EVIC yesterday on the 1 1/2 hour drive to see the Panthers.

19.5 mpg is pretty good for the temps and a HEMI

I went from Indianapolis IN to Peoria IL for a trip of about 220 miles. Most of the terrain was small hills and plains, along with the drive being about 95% highway miles.

On the way to Peoria using the cruise control on 75 mph, i was able to achieve 17.5 mpg into a headwind of 10 mph and with an ambient temperature of 23 degrees. RPMs were pegged at 2k.

On the way back to Indianapolis using the cruise control on 80 mph, i was able to achieve 18.3 mpg with very limited winds and with an ambient temperature of 34 degrees. Again the RPMs pegged at 2k.

Does anyone else seem to think 2k RPMs at 80 mph is a little high? Also, i wish i knew what gear i am in instead of staring at a D all the time.

I drove from southwest Colorado to St. Louis in August and averaged 21.8 for the trip. It's about 1200 miles give or take.

I think your mpg is pretty good and on target. With the hemi and regular gas I average just over 20 on the highway at about 70mph give or take. As for the difference up and back, it's likely the winds were not the same each way. Also, unless the elevation of each end of the trip is the same, you were essentially going uphill one way and down the other. The terrain also makes a difference going there and then back.
