Add me to the Brake Booster recall. I'm in Florida about 2,000 miles from my dealer and I have no idea how serious this recall is, plus no word yet on the alternator parts. We have a 5,000 mile, plus, trip coming up in February, should I be concerned

Any dealer can perform the repairs, whether you bought it there or not.

Think I would certainly get both taken care of before embarking on a trip that long....... Fix it when it is convenient for YOU, not when you are out in the middle of arizona somewhere, stranded on the side of the road in the desert......

As someone who is unable to drive my Durango because the alternator just went out, I would suggest everyone go buy a new one(alternator not Durango)and save the factory one(alternator not Durango)for when the recall repairs begin.
I didn't think it was a big deal when the dealer sent me home last month after fixing other recall repairs. Said no parts were available yet. Felt confident it wasn't a big deal. Now after being roadside waiting on a tow truck and finding out my PCM also got fried because of the alternator failure, I would have gladly spent my own money for a new one.
I wouldn't send FCA any receipts until the recall repairs begin for the alternator. Reason is, if you send receipts for the new alternator(regardless of brand), they will pay you back, however your recall is now complete and you will be responsible for any future damage. So should you have a similar failure or worse (PCM) as a result of the replacement, you will be stuck with any charges to repair.
I was told this from FCA directly. The parts that are "supposed" to be shipping in January are different from what is available today. No one knows if they are better or worse yet. We would all hope far Superior than any alternator ever built considering the costs already incurred by us the customer.
Disclaimer to the above: I can't afford to pay for the repairs and hope they reimburse. I am borrowing a vehicle from a family member until the recall repairs begin. Some folks are not like me at all and can't do that. Everyone must make their own decision. I'm just throwing my view or there so you can make an informed decision.

I just know that if you get reimbursed, you now have no recourse should something fail unless dealership does work maybe? I think cheapest route is to buy a new alternator and keep the old to reinstall when it's time to get dealer to repair for recall.

There is a reason why salvage PCMs and new alternators are so expensive for these vehicles. Supply and demand. Anytime there is a recall, parts are gonna get expensive. This one is unique in that FCA is dragging their feet and should be ashamed. Typical corporation looking out for their investors and not the people who are responsible for their success. THE CUSTOMERS.

I found out at a very young age, it's much better to admit you screwed up now than to lie and have it found out later. Look at Volkswagen and Takata. FCA will be next.

That was one of the big parts of the gripe I've been griping for months. Our options include a) waiting to be stranded and lives endangered then foot a repair bill or b) foot a repair bill anyway for substandard parts just to have relative "peace of mind" until the recall repairs start being made. This is to say NOTHING of other components being damaged as a result of alternator failure and the complications and expenditures that go along with that.

Crappy choices.

Not too sure about that. In the grand scheme of things, there aren't many Durangos on the road. There are far more Grand Cherokee WK2's, though - but still not near as many as there are Volkswagens and vehicles with Takata airbags. And that's another part of why our appeals to FCA and NHTSA seem to be falling on deaf ears - overall we are a very small slice of the motoring public. And since this is viewed as a "voluntary" recall by FCA, we are completely and totally at their mercy.

People who are in a position to do so should seriously consider trading their Durangos and WK2 GC's in. It's not worth the hassle. As for me, I rolled negative equity into my Durango loan so unfortunately this piece of garbage is mine for the forseeable future.

Default T36, dealership is trying to make me pay for it

Hi Dodge,
First and foremost I love your cars and currently drive a 2011 Chrysler 300c. Well the alternator failed while driving so I had it towed to the dealership nearest to me. Well after 2 days of no contact I called and told me it was the T36 recall and that I needed to pay $1,768 to have another alternator placed and that they would reimburse me because my warranty wouldn't cover it. This struck me as strange, I called my warranty company and they stated the alternator they are trying to replace mine with is also faulty and could cause fires. So of course I am not having that. Spoke with the Chrysler who state the part will be available in a few weeks. Cool I can wait, I just need a loaner care until them. Called the dealership, explained I don't feel comfortable with the alternator they want and why, asked for a loaner car. They state they don't have one and to call another Chrysler dealership. I spoke with a lovely man from the another one and he stated the first dealership was messing with me. That they shouldn't ever ask me to pay for an after market part to replace on a recall and a loaner car should be provided if needed. My car has been in the shop for 3 days now and I am just wondering if is the second dealership service man correct, is this dealership messing with me!? Thanks so much Dodge. I hope this is just the dealership and not a standard thing, making people pay for a part that is faulty and will only be in for a short while?

Good luck. I was quoted $650 for the "other" Alternator and told it would complete my recall if I chose to buy it. And it fried my PCM. So I'm patiently waiting for Dodge to get the damn parts so they can fix both for free. I've waited over a month without my Durango so far. I can wait longer. I'm probably selling and buying a different brand once it's fixed anyway. 5 different recalls on the same vehicle is ridiculous.

Hi Kendra,

I apologize for the concerns you are experiencing with your vehicle. Since our dealerships are independently owned and operated their rental/loaner vehicle policies may vary. This recall is currently in the interim stage which means parts are not currently available. You can visit https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehic...ls/search.html to sign up for email alerts, which will be the fastest form of communication for when parts are released. Unfortunately we do not have an ETA at this time. We will continue to provide any updates as they become available. In the meantime, we would recommend saving all receipts for any repairs completed so you have the ability to submit for reimbursement when the recall parts are released if needed.

Exactly how long does FCA plan on spitting out this canned response before people with means and time on their hands get tired of it, retain attorneys and file a notice of claim? Not much longer, I hope. You guys must have a dedicated button on your desk that automatically types this response.
