I personally do not take my HIGH dollars off road i dont think about either. my coworker never took his off road either. I was just wondering what kind of up keep a kn filter needs. ive heard that they to be cleaned and oiled every month and i have heard others say they never do anything to them.

Airaid filters have an extra synthetic layer to help trap smaller particles.
About two years ago I bought a pre-filter from K&N and put it on. They claim it only inhibits about 2% of the airflow. BIG difference, the filter stays much cleaner and my oil at change time is A LOT cleaner.
I just wipe the pre-filter down with a soft cloth every once in a while, but hell, if it ever gets bad dirty, I believe you can throw it in the washer and dryer...
