Sounds like it's time for a radiator-cap upgrade.

That sounds like an interesting project (but not very easy). Probably ECM, engine mounts, cooling system, hydroboost, plenty of wiring, exhaust, to start with. Doesn't the 05 power wagon have a 545rfe trans? If so, I don't know that it would like the torque from the cummins.

Its been done but its not for the technically challenged or tight wallets. In all honesty, you would be better just buying a CTD truck

From what I read you'd be better off with a 12V instead as you can get more power from them ans they have less emission restrictions. Someone else can chime in on this. . . .

Nah, you can tune the CTD a lot more then the 12v. The CTD is capabale of making a lot more power. And come stock with more hp / tq

More power stock from a 24V, but more equipment. With the 12V it's all mechanical, it can run fine with a dead battery. With the 12V you'll need motor mounts and adapt connectors for the alternator, A/C, etc.

If you don't want it to function like a truck from the 70's, you'll just have to buy a Cummins. One guy adapted one in very well, but it took him nearly a year solid

extreme amount of work required.. all new engine electronics, new motor mounts, new fuel system, new cooling, front suspension most likely will need beefed up to support the extra weight..
new transmission without a doubt, which if 4x4 most likely means a new transfer case or adapters to mount up with new trans into the tcase.. and depending on which rear end you have in the truck now... probably want to upgrade there..

the list is long and expensive.. it's totally doable but without a full out shop with proper tooling it's really a no go. budget wise.. easily 20 grand needed to do this right.. probably more.. I mean the motor itself is gonna be a 5-8 grand investment... If you do it.. I applaud your audacity...
