There are a few upgrades I am not that familiar with. But I am looking for some basic answers. As a few people already know I love creating new threads (sorry hammer,lol). I have a 2005 RAM 1500 RC/SB/2WD/HEMI that I am getting ready to lower and possibly even upgrade the shocks. Is it worth to upgrade the factory sway bars ? And my second question is thoughts on camshaft upgrade.

Well, you probably only have a front sway bar. Adding a RSB will make a definite improvement. Beefing up the FSB may cause the front to start pushing (not a comfortable feeling). Do you plan to do any performance mods besides the cam? Headers, chip, intake?

 

My CAI is already done. The camshaft might be the last thing I do unless someone can really inform me on if its worth it and what type of difference I might feel. I am going to be lowering it with a 2/4.5 kit form Mcgaughys which I have gotten a lot of good feedback from on here with that. The chip is questionable just because there a few choices and I have not yet researched it as fully as everything else. Headers I will be putting on I have be talking to a few peeps on here such as hammer, and J.J and they like there long tubes from pacesetter. Alot of people, actually most people on here say that shorties dont really work on the 5.7L and only really make a diff on the 4.7. So I will most likekly get pacesetters LT's and keep my cats. What difference and advantage will I see with a rear sway bar, and what the dimensions of a factory sway bar for the rear so I know what size I should get for the rear ?

There is no factory REAR swaybar, only front. And the swaybar makes a nice difference in driveability and handling. I have a hellwig rear swaybar on mine and I love it.

 

Your cam questions have been answered (by me and Truckin') in the other thread. As far as the sway bar goes, I'm VERY familiar with them on lifted vehicles - I've even made my own before and made the end links as well. But for lowered applications you need to heed the advice of these guys who have lowered their rides...

 

Truckin is ur truck lowered ?

 

Its leveled. 1.5in drop shackles & overload springs removed

Hammer - Is it possible to put on long tubes and cut the long tubes near the bottom so you dont have to move the cats backwards ?

TRUCKIN151 - So you are saying "DO" upgrade the sway on a lowered vehicle. Even on a 2/4.5 drop ?

So I guess with headers hammers do I need a whole new Y pipe as well, and if so what do you recommend ?

 

To answer both questions

Headers - these are the Pacesetter Longtube Headers


Notice the collectors, they are only 4-5in in length, you cannot cut them and keep the cats in the stock location okay.

Instead, you can either fab a piece to adapt to the original sock piping and move the cats back OR, what I did, was cut the Pacesetter ORY (Off-Road-Y Pipe) and open the cats up to a 3in in/out.






Mine ended up with the cats "sitting" on top of the crossmember and looks DAMN nice.

Swaybar - Yes absolutely do a rear swaybar. It makes the truck handle much nicer and eliminates most body roll. Catch is some are not made for a lowering kit. With as much of a drop as you are planning, I believe you would want the belltech swaybar, as I think they have a bar made for a lowered truck.

 

Truckign 151 I just really wanted to say thank you for taking time to send me those pictures and explain. I can see that if I am putting in headers the I ill just move the cats back and sit them near how you did on the cross bar depending on the room I will have. Now I love how your underneath its clean and looks great (p.s where did you get your work done ?) Also you went to duals with two mufflers I am guessing. I know people really wanna get exhaust out of there truck, but with your setup did you get a decline in exhaust velocity and lose low end power ?
