Default is there really a big mpg diffrence between the 4.7 and the 5.7?

According to the epa by the gov't they have same city and the hemi is 1 mpg less in highway. Is this true? because i'm looking for a truck and it'll be for college and to pull my boat and stuff like that so i was wondering if I should go for the hemi or the 4.7? thanks

All depends on how u drive. I know I don't get anywhere near the EPA's mpg.

I get 13 in the city and 17 on the highway. But I have the hemi with 20" rims and drive it like Im in GTA

I had a 4.7 before i traded it in on my Hemi. It got 16 city on a good day, the hemi's averaging about 13.5 BUT the Hemi gives me a lot more Smiles per gallon.

You'll never see the EPA numbers on these trucks, simple as that. But since you tow a boat I would go with the Hemi. Plus why get a lesser engine when they both have just about the same claimed MPG numbers?

I got the 4.7. It's a good little motor. But if your gonna tow a boat I'd get the hemi. I've towed a boat with my truck and I was working the you know what out of it

Even without towing, the Hemi is the better bet. With the over heating issues on the 4.7, it doesn't seem a good idea.

What over heating issues? If you do the regular maintenence like your suppose to,it doesn't happen.i got 112000 miles and haven't had a problem yet

I just went from a single cab 03 4.7 up to a 06 mega cab with hemi. My mile change after 3 full tanks of gas is hemi is getting me 1mpg better. I ran 87 octane in the 4.7 and pulled 10-11mph with hemi I run 88 octane and I am getting aprox 11-12 mpg. That is hand calculated. (my computer has been near spot on only off by .2 each tank)
