Default 2002 1500 4.7 liter

Has anyone owned a 1500 with the 4.7 liter? What was the power like. I only do very light towing, i.e. two motocross bikes in the back, small pop-up camper. I have a 2002 with 47,000 miles I am considering. Thanks!

If you can find a Hemi, try to get into it first... IMO

I have the 03 with the 4.7L and it is fine if you are only going to be toting around a few MX bikes like I do, but now that I have my camping trailor and my new boat, I am trading it in on a CTD.. The Hemi may get better MPG's though, price is relatively close, so if you can find a Hemi get it...

I've got an 2002 4.7L and it would be just fine for what you have. I don't do a lot of towing with my truck either and I am pretty happy with my truck. The trannies are a little shift happy. But if you're towing something heavier you can turn the overdrive off. That helps quite a bit.

Don't waste your money on a gas guzzling, no power 4.7. Trust me, I own one.

I have an 03 Ram 1500 with the 4.7 I don't have any complaints about her. She does fine when I hook up and pull my old mans boat around..

I have a 4.7 Quad Cab 4x4 and I love it BTW, There is no way a hemi would have come close to my truck (I paid $9600) price wise

I have the same truck, do lots of similiar towing as well. Certainly not a problem to haul couple of bikes around. I will sometimes have 3 dirtbikes in back of bed (long bed) and 1 on a hitch rack. Does fine and is still well within its limits. I think a big factor in how well this particular motor/tranny/truck combo performs is all in the gear ratio in the differential. For almost all purposes the 3.55 sucks compared to the 3.92 or higher. Air bags or add a leafs on rear end help out alot to keep load level and maintain good handling. I think this motor is more than capable of handling alot more than people give it credit for. Sure its not going to do 80 uphill with room for more but if thats what your into then get a CTD or Hemi at the least. If doing the speed limit and keeping it safe is Ok enough then this truck will do just that.
