Yes. Especially if you have certain mods under the hood or a tuner. The manual says that you should run 89 but with a stock setup you can run 87 as long as you don't beat the heck out the engine. Higher octane just burns cleaner and faster thus reducing the chance of knock and tapping. If you are stock run the 89 and you will not have any problems, if you want to run premium, go ahead. You figure it is only about a $7.00 difference compared to the lower grade and it will help out with MPG a little (especially if you have the mods for it)..

Only if you have a tuner programmed for 92

Depends on your mods really. Both will run good regardless, but if you have alot done to your truck then the 92 will be better. If you are stock then get the 89.

Quite the opposite....

The higher the octane, the SLOWER the fuel burns, reducing preignition on hot pistons and cylinder metal.

That's why 87 octane pings like a biotch in high compression engines, (compression causes heat: IE Diesels) because it has a higher/faster burn rate, and a lower flash point.

To boot, running high octane fuel in a car NOT designed to run it is a waste, and due to a slower burn rate, can lead to piston/valve deposits due to causing an "over rich" condition.

I ran the 91 octane program with a tank of 87 octane fuel and couldn't pull out from a dead stop without the engine pinging. With the 91-93 octane in my truck, it runs a ton better.

I run with the 91 or 93 octane using the 91 setting on the SC. I get 60 - 80 miles per tank more.
