Default RE: 4.7 Performance upgrades

I was going to post a question but I see in this post that there are all of my questions answered... No as far as mileage I am only getting 13 mpg so far. I just went over 1,000 miles and I am still at the stock mode.

My first purchase is a combo of the CAI (K&N or Volant??) and the JET chip... Then of course a tonnue cover fopr the bed to help out as well... Just like my Harley, part by part it will get together...

Thanks for the info as this is a great help to me..

Happy New Years!!!

Hey Shadow, if you read in a little deeper you may want to reconsider that Jet chip. From what everyone says on here they do more harm than good especially on the 4.7. Alot of guys here say they lost mpg's and gained very little, or even lost some performance. Your choices are VERY slim for the 4.7, but one that consistanly comes up is the SCT, they may not have one out for your model year yet, but they're pretty much the only choice you got for any real gains from a tuner. I'd just sart out with the CAI and a cat back first. As far as CAI's I'd go with the closed box Volant, but I made my own and seem to be getting the same effects on the "butt dyno" as the rest of these guys. Hope I was helpful. Good Luck , and welcome!

Spud, thanks for the note. I did read all of these post and they are very interesting. I did get the info wrong, thanks for correcting me. So the Volant is the best choice rather than the K&N??? Also what is SCT? I tried to look it up but was not able to find it. Also will it be good for my Grand Cherokee?? It has the same engine but it is a 04 model. I have seen a few differances between years and this is wild... Should I go with Volant on her too???

Thanks for the info...

Go to www.airram.com he has it there. He's also got alot of everything else you'd be looking for. As far as your Jeep, along with your truck, thats your baby, do with her as you please, but K&N, Volant, True Flow, they've all been recomened here. Can't go wrong with any of them IMO.

Hey guys, I havent been on this site in FOREVER, but here's my .02 on some 4.7 mods, based on what I've done....
Me- I've got an '04 4.7, Fastman 70MM, K&N FIPK, '02 HO Manifold, Fastman 206 Cams, Gibson coated headers, Transgo shift kit, Edge 2600 Billet Torque Converter, 4.56 gears and Detroit True Trac... I've got KRC 212x Cams and Killians Ported heads sitting in my room waiting to be installed...holding out on SCT for those

Dont do cams unless you have tuning. SCT tuning works for '02s right now, and they are working on the 03+ so hopefully soon we will have tuning. With my 206's I'm running VERY lean, so you dont really see a whole lot of gain from them without a tune.

Throttle body is a good mod, and cheap, get it from www.fastman.com, he ports them, so for much less you'll have all the flow you need.

CAI- Get one off of ebay, you can get it for about $100, they are knockoffs of the AEM Bruteforce which is a massive 4" intake. When you get it, put in an amsoil dryflow filter, and you'll be bolden, for about $150

Gears are a must if you have a 5 speed trans. I went with 4.56's and am extremely happy.
If you have the 4sp, I'd stick with 3.92 or 4.10

Torque converter is a great mod for 0-60 performance...if you can get traction.

There's 3 intake manifolds for the 4.7...
The '02 offers the most "low end torque"
The '02 High Output (from some Dakotas and Jeeps) offers the most upper end Horsepower (if you can find one, they have been discontinued from Dodge).
The '04+ is a "happy medium" between the two.

I'd love to do an Efan but havent gotten around to it yet, someday I'll get one and now they are worth it, I just havent done it.

adamsredlines I noticed that you have the true trac diff. replacing mine is on my list of things to do. I can find a lot of info on the forum for the auburn but not the true track. How long have you had it and how do you like it. I have an 03 with the 4.7.
