Default Replacement Key madness for an 07

I bought a used 07 1500 and the dealer only had one key for it. I asked them the cost for a replacement and it was like $180. The key is the type with the remote on it and they said I have to have that type. I have read other posts on here that state that I can buy cheaper key's without the remote on ebay and just pay to have them programed. I called another dealer here in Phoenix and they said the same thing. That I have to have the key with the remote on it. Actually the second dealer scoffed at me when I mentioned buying a key from someone else.

Can anyone verify that for an 07 I don't have to have the kind of key with the remote on it?

Thanks

I would have made the second key part of the sale before I signed the contract to purchase.Selling the truck withone key is just not right and shows the quality of the dealer. Red

I would have done the same myself. I didn't know there was only one key untill after I had bought the truck.

Go back to the salesman and tell him that you spent $30K (or whatever) on a new truck and if he doesn't appreciate your business enough to throw in a 2nd key, you'll let everyone know where not to buy their vehicles from.

I don't have an 07, but it is probably the same as my 06. My 06 had the remote in the key as one. I bought 2 keys from ebay for about 30-40 dollars. I don't remember teh exact amount. I had ace hardware cut them. They did it for free since they were my keys. Then the only thing I had to do was program them. I had 2 good keys already so I was able to do it myself. With only one you'll have to figure a way to program it or get them to do it. My key is a dodge key. It gray with the ram logo on it. best of luck.

I found the key that dodgepartsman suggested for $25 on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-...spagenameZWD1V

I am going to buy that one and try to get it programed. I will let you all know how it worked out.

Thanks for everyones help!

I went through some of the headache you are going through but mine was an 03. I was quoted the same price as you from the dealer. I bought 2 keys and 2 fobs off an ebay dealer for 75 bucks to my door. Then the Dodge dealer only charged me 40 bucks to program everything.
