You really only need 1 Farad per 500wRMS, Lash. That would really be overkill, imho.

Cool. Like I said, I am no car audio guru. I can only use the theories and concpepts that I learned in my 12 years as a professional audio engineer for bands such as Saliva, Collective Soul, Liz Phair, Ani DiFranco, Henry Rollins, you get the idea.... We just don't use capacitors....no need for em. I wish you would have posted in the capacitors thread that I opened... I value your opinion. Thanks for your posts!
But on that same note Lash, do not be too quick to write off this 6 farad capacitor. OK, Ok, I know I said 1 farad for 500wRMS and i have 1 for every 100w. I concede you need a much closer ratio than that, but the cap has definately improved system performance. The lights hardly dim anymore(I am gettin a new alt. and batt. after christmas if you have any suggestions for that, besides optima, of course) and the attack on the bass notes is much better. It is not louder, just punchier and cleaner.
I think that Caps should be used in conjunction with electrical upgrades. Caps can discharge stored power much faster than the battery can chemically react or the alternator mechanically generate. That is all I was saying. I had a 1 farad cap on a previous, much lower powered system, and It seemed to work fine. I guess we can only go on what our personal expirience has brought us.
Lash, I would love you hear you other opinions on whatI have posted in this thread. Do you have any other input?

I don't like getting into threads about caps. They are like threads on religion.
If you want to research why the professionalcar audio world tends to not like them (well...mostly the cheap-o Best Buy caps)....do some reading on here. Looks for posts from the EXPERIENCED members with competition experience.....not just some kid who beats up the block
