You can run 87 octane in it just fine with the "87 Octane - Economy Tune". But you won't want to. You get a couple of mods on it and you won't want to run anything else but the "91 Octane - Performance Tune".

No I put in 91 on the 91 performance setting. Anything lower and the knock sensors will pull back the timing resulting in less power. Or worse yet make you ping and possibly damage your motor. Superchips also has a 87 octane setting if you ever want to run that octane.

With my 04 ram, I ran the 89 octane with or without the tune and didn't seem to have any effect, now with my 08 I run 94 and when the budget is tigth 91. Honestly 87 is top low for my taste. I run 91 on any gas engine I own and all seem to run smoother.

I was running 87 with my Jet Chip cause I didn't know the truck had it installed and developed a tick. Now I run 92 with the Superchips 91 setting, the tick has all but disapeared. It would be a little stupid to run the 91 setting on 87 considering that isn't what its for, I would see no positives since the 91 setting is made to run with 91 octane meaning the timing is advanced to run with 91. Also, if someone couldn't afford to run 91 but is getting a Superchip to run it on the 91 setting I would maybe rethink it.

To answer the original question, I haven't run it with the SC but I did with the JC unknowingly and it started ticking.

Matt

You DO NOT want to run 87 octane gas while using the "Performance Setting"! The timing is advanced way too far to even consider it. Short term you will have knocking problems, long term engine damage would almost undoubtable result.
If you have any questions regarding your Superchips Flashpaq they have an excellent forum at:
