is new Zealand on the other side of the date line? (meaning east) I know tonga is.

I bet there are a lot of people in that biz as its seems to cost so much to ship em. Btw Texas generally has the best deal on trucks, we sell more trucks in Texas than any other state, even sell more trucks than all of Canada.

Also you should look into a bullydog or edge programmer, it will optimize your truck for when you tow and then you can switch it to an improved tune for regular driving. Also since you'll be towing you may want to buy a transmission temp guage. Also I dont know if amsoil is sold locally in NZ but check out amsoil.com they make the best oil for your motor, as well as great tranny fluid and differential fluid.

Well think I'm gonna go look for some Mexican food, gotta love breakfast tacos.

What's up with that 10k diesel tax in the E-bay ad? The time zone thing is hard for some people to understand. I go to Beijing quite a bit and when I fly back I land here (L.A.) before I leave Beijing. You should check Craigslist and Auto Trader to see what's happening price wise. Try to narrow it down to a few trucks before you leave NZ. There should be a lot of trucks here in L.A. Also would be cheaper for you to just fly to LAX and rent a car to look at your prospects. PM me or some other member if you want any recon done.

Ah yes, diesel tax. its another way that our greedy governement, with its coffers overflowing and a huge surplus (about 3 billion I beleive) adds extra tax onto us. Basically you have topay an extra tax when you drive a diesel car, and its based on kilometres. you pay about $300to buy 10,000 kms of driving. And if you own a heavier vehicle, the rate goes up, so I think a ram will push it over the cutoff, and so the tax is more per km.

I went to Beijing last November, what a trippy country that is! Lots of fun, loved the Tingsau beer at 35 cents for a quart bottle, not a bad drop as well (although at that price it could have tasted like dishwater an dwe would have bought it!).

I will check out what LA has to offer, thats probably the smartestas most of the shipping companies are based there. Thanks for the offer Rick, i will keep it in mind when i come over. To quote Winston Churchill "Time spent in reconoissance is seldom wasted"

Hi again. Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but have more advice to ask from the masses!

Plans have changed slightly, I am still keen to come over to buy a ram, but have also decided to pick up a couple of muscle cars while Im there. Thinking about mustangs, camaros and challengers, as they tend to be the most sought after cars back here. They dont have to be factory muscle with matching numbers, 6 cylinders would do as well. What is the best way to find these sort of cars? Not really keen on the ebay thing, as it tends to mean a lot of travelling, would rather go somewhere where these sort of cars congregate for sale if you know what I mean. Can anyone suggest somewhere that would be a good place to start?

Just come to L.A. Closer to NZ you have to ship from here anyway and there's probably more muscle cars for sale here than anywhere else. We have a big free car show at the L.A. Fairgrounds the first Wed. of every month. Hundreds of cars many for sale. Check Craigslist for L.A. I was thinking of selling my Corvette over there. Looks like it would sell for more than here.

Beijing was a great party town. They decided to run all the working girls out to clean up the image of the City. Now all the bars are dead but the Chinese beer is still available.

I also have one of these but mine is a 72 with 68k original miles. One of the last ones built in California, I have the original owners manual and build sheet. http://www.autotrader.co.nz/UsedItem...d=11A49CFF7E1D

Hey Rick, thanks for that. I spent about an hour on craigslist looking at all the mustangs alone! Seems to be heaps there, a reasonable runner in tidy condition can be picked up for about 7-8k, so thats not bad. Might look at camaros tonight, as they are popular here too. Is craigs a LA local website? I dont want to travel all over the country looking at cars, would prefer to keep in one area if possible. ALso do you have a link or a name for that carshow? Might be worth checking that out too.

Yeah Beijing is a crazy place alright. We hired pushbikes and rode around Tianamen square for a day, that was a blast. Watched the crossing of the gaurd intothe palace as the sun went down was cool too. Got sick of being accosted by hawkers, so we started talking to them in Maori, which is the langauge of the indigenous people of NZ, that stopped them! Although to thier credit, most of them knew english, german swedish and french, which was impressive. We did manage to waste a bit of money in bar street, not just on booze, buton crazy concoctions called fruit bongs, which were hard case! Had to be a bit carefull in the urinals though. If you are a westerner, youll know why.....!
