Turbo on a 1500??
Hey I am new to this site, but I was wondering what some of your opinions are. I currently drive a 1997 1500 laramie dodge and I drive the **** out of it and havent had any major problems yet. But the truck is 11 years old and has 130000+ miles on it. So I am thinking about buying a 2008 or 2009 ram 1500. Now, I know that the new hemis put out alot of power, and they get decent fuel mileage, but I want to put a remote mounted turbo on it. Any thoughts? I just am wondering if the new trucks are put together well enough to handle a turbo charger. This would not be a track truck but a daily driver.

Anytime you increase the power greatly over factory levels, it's gonna be harder on parts. From what I can see, the running gear seems to be pretty tough, so if you're not driving it like a 16 year old (brake stands, neutral drops, etc) then my best guess is that you'll be ok. I'd stay on top of maintenance though, keep the trans and diff fluids fresh, since they're the main components that have to deal with that extra power.

The good news:
The STS turbo is the perfect power adder solution to the hemi ram. The extra power is only there if when you want it be. You can drive like normal and the turbo doesn't add any extra power. It only produces boost when you jump on it or add a big load to it, besides just normal driving for most over 40 years old.
The bad news;
The only solid tuning solution for the hemi with forced induction is the SCT Flash Tuner and larger internal injectors, a 2 BAR MAP sensor and an intercooler. As far as I know, SCT does not have a tuner yet that can do the '08 or '09.
That means that you can install the turbo, but you will need to keep the boost down UNDER 3lbs until the tuner is available.
