Default 2008 Dodge 1500 Transmission noise

When I shift my truck from drive into park or from park into drive the transmission makes a grinding noise as I shift it into gear. Kinda sounds like the gears are lining up. Is this normal? Has anyone else heard this sound before.

Glen,

I don't notice it normally. Only when my radio is off and my windows are down. I cannot hear it in the cab.

I am not sure on this but i believe there are no gears in an automatic transmission.
Its got a lifetime warranty take to the dealer.

There are gears in an automatic transmission. They are different than gears in a manual transmission. They are always meshed with each other, waiting for a hydraulic clutch to lock in to put them to use.
