AIR RAM - can you explain how that fan adds the horsepower? I mean what does it do? Is it a cooling thing? Thank you.

And Hank, those are good stats. Even on the 2008s, the Hemi is close to the 4.7 on mileage with the MDS. The 2008 4.7 is supposedly more fuel efficient than the older 4.7 versions. My truck happens to have the 3.21 gears, so on the highway I do get very good mileage. I do a lot of highway driving so it works for me.

But I would not mind having that 4.56 to hot rod around with! LOL

Ill be honest... the money tree has slowed down producing funds so until it starts to grow a little more it will be a while...

I was thinking about a 10.5:1 or 11:1 NA 212 cam and all my other mods first.... This should make close to 350RWHP@6000RPMs with the aluminum intake and the ability to REV to 7000RPMs these 212 cams would make some impressive power up in that range... I would guess in the ball park to 375-400RWHP@7,000RPMs. It would be a fun engine no doubt.

Of course I have thought about just doing 10:1cr engine and when the superchargers ready just run 10psi... I have been wanting to do a 10/10 engine for a while now as a package build up.

But ultimately I would love to do the 9:1cr and bolt on the Whipple 3.4L and run 17-19psi... Thats the ultimate goal and we will eventually get their... but its not cheap... so its going to take time.

Your clutch fan is turned by the belt which is turned by your crank. By removing the clutch fan you free up 10 RWHP since your crankshaft no longer has to turn it.

The electric fan in itself does NOT make HP... its the removal of the Clutch Fan thats frees up 10RWHP... The E-Fan is needed to keep the radiator cool since thats was the job of the clutch fan you removed.

unless the clutch locks up because air over 220 degrees F is flowing past it,
the factory viscous clutch fan uses very little horsepower,
as it 'freewheels' in the silicone fluid,

part of the 'trickery' used on deceptive rear wheel dyno tests
when testing a mod
is play around with the portable 120 volt fans that are usually used
to aim at the vehicle's radiator,
while on the dyno
where the vehicle is sitting still

just a small change in direction of the portable fans
will cause the air going past the viscous clutch fan to get hotter than 220 degrees,
causing it to lock up
and use up to 20 hp at 5000 rpm

then on the second run of the dyno
where a mod is put on the engine
that you want to play tricks with to show false horsepower being gained,
the portable fans are now set to blow more directly toward the clutch fan
and keep the temperature below 220 degrees,
so the viscous clutch now is unlocked,
and the deceptive mod seems to have added 20 hp

Not to threadjack but more like changing gears. I have 3.92 LSD 4x4 and would it make it worth the investment to upgrade to 4.56 gearing? Although my 4.7 is strong, I find it feeling a little weaker on performing with the 35 inch tires. I have been price quoted by 4wheelparts on doing the job with parts and labor included for about $1200. Is this reasonable or robbery?

Yes thats a good deal... I think they price match... so go to our site and quote them our prices... that should save you a few more bucks. Chose 4.56 gears HANDS DOWN.

Electric Fans - FACT, they are worth a SOLID 10RWHP on your 3rd Gen Ram. This is DYNO PROVEN fact... not a "INTERNET HERO OPINION"

Electric fans are relatively easy to install. The Flex-A-Lite 180 is a great fan that is the easiest on I have ever seen to install.

You must be careful of the "INTERNET HERO's" and their opinions... they will lead you astray with there cut/pasting of articles that support there agenda... kinda like watching CNN... you think your getting the news... but your really getting ones personal agenda.

notice that Air_Ram is trying to sell you the expensive Flex-A-Lite 180
... this will fatten his wallet

But what did Air_Ram himself do?

Well, two weeks after I posted the info on how to use the inexpensive and reliable Lincoln Mk-VII factory electric fan
Air_Ram then posted pictures of him doing the install ... the exact one I recommended.
It is worth reading that post to chuckle over
the vast 'skills'
that Nick claims for himself ... which was using a Dremel tool to grind off a little plastic
