Good to see you around Hammer! Haven't talked with you in a while! Have a great Christmas if I don't get a chance to talk with you before then! We are getting a very white Christmas this year! We have had about 36" of snow in the last 24 hours and are expected to get another 12"!! Got to love life at 10,300ft in the Rocky Mountains!

Same to you! I'm actually in Ga. but not at the farm so I have access. I had an oops! and fell about 15' last week when a cheap a$$ Wal-Mart ratchet strap let loose while I was getting out of my stand. Landed flat on my back. Nothing broke, but I'm sore as hell! Been staying with a buddy in town and letting his girl friend wait on my sorry a$$.
I miss the mountains and the snow. Grew up in upstate N.Y. right in the Catskills. Almost bought a place in the mountains right where Ga. and N. Carolina meet a couple years ago, would have seen some there. Good thing I didn't though, the ex would have gotten that too probably...

Merry Christmas to both of you as well and I hope that you don't get burried in Colorado. Tell me how those nitto's pull through that snow and Hammer be careful next time you are hunting. I bet you feel great now. lol Anyways... I do have the 05 so it is the torsion bar and the rancho lift kits are freakin expensive now compared to when you bought it in 04 or 05. I am looking at toyo Mt's in the 37x13.5x17 (37.1x14.6), the nitto mud grapplers 37x13.5x17 (37.05x14.3), and the BF KM2's 38x14.5x17 (37.8x14.7). All three are great tires, but what are the positives and disadvantages of each tire and the expected life span of them?

From what I've seen and been told, the Nitto's have about the best traction of the three, but along with the BFG's have a reputation for wearing the fastest on pavement.
The Toyo's don't have quite the traction off-road that the Nitto's do, but are not far behind. They have a pretty solid reputation for longevity though.
If you want off-road capability with fairly good wear also look at Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials, probably second only to Boggers in the slop and unbeatable in rocky terrain. Down side is wet pavement is only about average and they are LOUD! Also look at Mickey MTZ's. The Mickey Thompson/Dick Cepek tires have always been great to me. Super performance and I've never had a set wear out before replacing the truck.
Have a great holiday...

The claws do look pretty awesome. Do you think that they would last longer than the BFG's then? How are they compared to the grappers in longevity and in road noise. Also driving around in all the snow, slush, and rain in chicago I was wondering how they handle under those conditions as well? I liked the claws a while ago and they do look really cool, but so do the grappers. Which of those two would be more suitable for the driving to work portion?

The Claws are about like Super Swamper Boggers, but maybe just a hair behind them in mud but significantly better on the trail, rocks and pavement.
I had a set of Claws in the early-mid 90's on a primarily weekend play/hunting truck. I loved them, but personally wouldn't use them on a daily driver. But that's because I travel far on interstates and look for longevity. Although I know a few that have them on daily driver 4x4's and they love them.
THEY ARE LOUD, probably even louder than Nitto Mud Grapplers. I'd say they'll last a little longer though because the tread blocks are a lot higher, probably not wear any better but a lot more tread to wear. Pavement handling is average, but that's a compliment for such an aggressive tire. The lack of siping (like all TRUE extreme mudders) means performance on wet roads and ice will not be a strong suite but would be well above average in deep snow.
When you get into the Mud Grappler and the more aggressive Claw and Bogger tires there is always gonna be some give and take. A tire has to be average or a below in some catagories to be the best in others as opposed to say my Cepek FCII's which are above average in ALL catagories but not an industry leader in any one.
