I talked 4wheelparts tonight and they want 1800 for them to redue the gears to 4.56 is that ridiculous or what... that includes everything but does anyone know a good place to get this done in the dallas/Ft worth area?

 

That's what they cost bub. Remember you need 2 sets of gears and 2 install kits plus twice the amount of fluid. You have to do the frong gears as well.
For just the rear diff, generally speaking it would cost $600-$800 parts/labor. 4:56's are more expensive than other sizes also, IFS is more than SFA

When I got my rears done (4x2) it ran right around $900 out the door at 4wheel parts. They do a good job or at least the one by me did a good job on my truck.

 

yea i figured it would be like a 1000 but not 1800... they said i could do a air intake and and a programmer for 600. what kind of power differences would they be with the intake and programmer. I just want my old horsepower back since i got my lift and 35"s..

 

if 600 is parts and install thats a great deal. then youd get back some good power, not sure on the numers, something like 15-20? depending on your tuner setting. add exhaust and im sure its 20 and upwards.

 

Seems like allot to me also----I'm looking to do this mode also with my 4x4.

i think an air intake doesn't add much at all for allthe cost that is generally involved. With that said, a tuner has no comparison to a gear install as far as seat of the pants goes. Numbers on paper are great, but feeling the power of gears is more felt than 15hp on paper.

Now if you can buy the gears at a better price then have somebody give you a good deal on instal that would be the way to go.

BEst thing you can do is shop around. 4wheel Parts will price match any ad you bring them. When I got my gears done they wanted $800 for the gears and $600 for labor. I looked around and found a set for $300 online and got a quote for around $550 for the labor at another shop (but they wanted $850 for the gears at the other place too). Took both sheets back to them got their gears (which were a better quality gear) at the $300 price range after tax and got the labor for the $550 that I was quoted else where. Added a 3yr warranty on parts and labor and I called it good. Just shop shop shop shop shop until you find the best deals all around.

When you think about it though it sounds about right. Its costing you $900 for the front and $900 for the back...
