Not to resurrect an old thread.... but I figured I'd throw my numbers out there to see what you guys thought.

I picked up an '04 1500 QC with the 4.7 in it. It has ~68k miles on it. Picked it up for a touch over 9k. VERY clean truck. All my friends and family thought it was a new '08. (he had already put the '08 20" wheels on it, originally it had the 17s) Anyway..... The guy i got it from said he was lucky to get 17 mpg out of it on the highway with his foot out of it, and 13 in town. Just babying it. I figured that wasn't too bad and had plans for a Cortex programmer anyway. I ordered a SC Cortex for the 4.7 and it now comes with the new MileageXS tune in it. I wanted to get the best mileage I could, so I thought I'd go ahead and try the XS tune. I also needed to fix the speedometer too, because of the larger tires. About 2 weeks ago on a trip to Corpus Christi from Beaumont, TX, I got an average of 19.44 on the highway and 16.42 city. Not too dang shabby if you ask me. I'm thrilled with those results, and the loss in performance with that tune in it is negligible at best. It'll still roast the tires easily at a light. Maybe it's the 3.55 gears that really help the mileage, but I'm not complaining The SC tuner is the only mod done to the truck at all. Nothing else. Do these sound like pretty good numbers to you guys?? I've just ordered a K&N drop-in filter for it because the FIPK is WAY too loud for my tastes, and the wife complains about it too. The CAI was only on it for a day. It wasn't used on the trip to Corpus.

You need to not look at the read-out and go by your actual mileage vs how much fuel you put in. My read-out never goes above 12. Ever. Not unless I reset it everytime I fuel up because I drive mostly around town. But I do get 16mpg highway. I have 20's w/3:92 gears.

I would get some Lucas Fuel injector cleaner and run that through a few tankfuls and you'd be surprised on what it can do.
My Exploder got a fresh tune-up and new fuel filter and was 11mpg it's first tank even with all the above done. 2nd tank it went to 14mpg average. 3rd tank I got 17mpg. i ran 3 tanks of 91w/Lucas and by the third tank i got the MPG's back it was rated for. I drove the same all 3 tanks except the last tank i even was running the A/C for most of the time! Other 2 I wasn't.

My truck does not have the trip computer readout inside. I guess that's what you're referring to. I'm calculating it by miles/gallons when I fill up like you say. That's the only way I've ever done it.

Ha ha ha My truck gets 8 in the city and that is pretty much it. On highway once I think I got 17 the rest of the time on highway it is 10 or 12.

Oddly, enough when towing an around 6800lb trailer on highway I still get high nines and low tens.

Oh well, It is an extra vehicle.

Of course that is just the overhead readout. I will have to calculate it by hand sometime. I'll keep yall posted.

if you guys complaining about gas mileage then why did you buy the truck?

I basically dont care about gas as long as they last about a week in tank.

oops. From what I've heard though; they aren't much more fuel efficent than a Hemi.

I drive quick but not that quick and I have never gotten about 13.2mpg and that was an all highway trip. This HEMI should be getting something like 15mpg on the highway from what I can tell about your posts. The city should be at least 13 and I can't get it. Today after like 100mi I am currently getting 9.7mpg and my last overall tank came out to 11.2mpg and that was with the overhead and doing the math from the miles. Every now and then I will check the math and it will come out to worst mpgs!!!

So do I have a problem with fuel injectors, fuel line/pump or throttle body. Were should I look to get the mpg that I should be getting and I just had all maintence schedules done less then 2k miles ago so that has all been taken care of like tranny fluid/filters, both diffs, new oil/air filter/sparkplugs and the exhaust manifold had a broken bolt and now is fixed so please help me out here.
my truck gets about 9 in the city 13 on the highway.....it's about the same as the other Ram we have........
