Default Oil Filter Drain

I hate the way the filter on my 06 is situated to drain onto things in the engine compartment when I change it. I use a fairly clumsy method involving a pie pan to keep everything clean, but I was wondering if anyone has found an easier method.

I personally don't use this one, because I use Royal Purple and I do mine myself. But there is a very easy method a lot of people use. You drive into a lube joint, pull in, sit there for about 15 mins. Pay the people their $29.95 + tax, and drive away. Very easy method...

I use a flexible metal funnel. I position it under the filter and let it catch all the mess.

Yeah, but then you have to go thru all the paperwork nightmare to get them to buy you a new engine when the pimply faced kid double gaskets the filter or leaves the plug loose. I know. I used to be that pimply faced kid. At least I took the time to wash my hands and wipe my feet before entering your white leather interior, though.

I presume you have the 4.7? From the location and orientation, they're kinda messy. That's why that trough is under the filter.

The Hemi is pretty easy -- a sandwich bag over the filter to catch most of it, and a paper shop towel to catch what's left.

There is a plastic thing on the wife's hemi GC that is situated under the filter that funnels all of the excess oil into a neat little stream and then into the drain pan. Maybe you could get one for your truck.

the oil filter on my 04 1500 is a pain too, not sure whats right under it, either the axle or steering component. regardless, doing the oil youself is always going to be a mess.

I let the dealer change mine. Genuine Mopar oil and filter and with Coupons that I always get online, I get it done for $21.95

I do have the Hemi. The sandwich bag solution is so good, and so simple I just have to say Doh!
