Default Need Help Quick

just got the call back from the dealership...$1260 bucks for my freakin truck...they said my sway bars need replacement, the brakes in the front are worn out so those need to be replaced, im leaking from a ps hose so i need a new one because it's split, and the creeking noise was from a lower ball joint which needs replacement, and an alignment, if anyone has the slightest idea if im getting ripped off or if this is reasonable please let me know

edit:

sway bars being replaced = $279.18
Pressure line on ps line being replaced = $118.65
alignment = $94
front brakes = $397
lower ball joint = $370

Total = about $1260

Thanks

Yeah the last 2 do seem alot to me.Of coarse i'd do it my self so it would be cheaper.And i may be wrong but i've nver heard of sway bars needing replacement before unless they were bent or something like that.I'd insist on seeing all the old parts if you do decide to have them do it.but i'd check around and get a couple of quote from a different place oyher than the dealer.

you're getting screwed!! don't do it!!

you can do that ball joint in your driveway with borrowed tools in 2 hours!!

or even at a smaller shop for much less money. It does NOT have to be done at a dealer.
The power steering hose problem is a well known problem, all it needs is a $2 clamp and 10 minutes. If you need a new hose, it might cost a little bit more, not $128.

$400 for brakes??!! why?

$370 is just for the ball joint, without install?? way out of line.

Why does a sway bar need replacement? For sure tell them NOT to do this. It's easy to do later if you want, and if you do in fact need a new sway bar (which you probably don't) might as well upgrade for THE SAME PRICE.

Ask around and find a smaller shop. All this can be done for about $800. Much less if you do it yourself, maybe $400-500.

That sucks, I could do all of that for cost of parts (except for the alignment, not everyone has an alignment rack lying around).

tell me about it...how much does a pair of brakes for the front usually go for? i've been looking on the internet and some brakes are showing 70-90 bucks?

if all you need is brake pads, figure $100 for good ones, and about an hour and a half of your time. $400 is the going rate if you have a shop replace pads and turn the rotors, but they are really easy to do yourself. i do em for my company and charge $150 plus parts to do the fronts.

ps hose probably just needs the clamp, thats what i did with mine after the stealership quoted me $120/ each hose. the sway bar doesnt "wear out", so that doesnt make sense. maybe the sway bar end links, but those are only 2 bolts holding them on. and the ball joints, if i recall correctly they are under $50/piece for the parts.

wish you were around here, id definitely help ya out. the alignment would be all you had to take it in for. go get your truck back so you dont get screwed!!! lol.
