Default **Update**had a BIG uh oh

Was driving home on friday and heard a bunch of bangs and clangs and a huge cloud of smoke out the tailpipe... pulled over and shut the engine down right away. Well found out today that it was a couple snapped valves, they dont know how it happened or why it happened. So i guess its time for a small rebuild. In that case i went shopping today and this is what i picked up, since the engine is gonna be torn apart:

-Comp Cams 260/264 camshaft

-Comp Cams Valve Springs, Single, 1.055 in. Outside Diameter, 313 lbs./in. Rate, 1.085 in. Coil Bind Height, Set of 16

-Comp Cams Valve Spring Retainers, Titanium, 7 Degree, 1.055 in. Outside Diameter, Beehive, Chrysler, 5.7L, Set of 16

-Comp Cams Pushrods, Hi-Tech, Chromemoly, Heat-Treated, 5/16 in. Diameter, Mopar, Hemi V8, 5.7/6.1L, Set of 16

what you guys think??? Good combination of stuff?

Update #1:

They pulled the engine out, pulled the heads off, and cylinder #8 was empty.... rod, piston gone. The guy said that he has never seen a cylinder empty before, figures the rod snapped and the piston fell into the crank and exploded. So long story short this is what is now needed:

- cylinder bored and sleaved
- new connecting rod
- new piston
- new crankshaft
- new crank bearings,
- crank journals machined

this is ending up being more then i expected!

Lose the comp springs. Thay have a history of failure in the 5.7 with high lift cams. Get a set of 6.1 exhaust springs instead. It's just not worth the risk.

The 260 is a good torque camand does welll in qc's. Do you have a tuning solution for it? What are your plans for the truck? Street, strip, towing?

I agree with Froggy! 6.1L springs or Manley's. The 6.1's are much cheaper than either Comp or Manley

Since your going to be in there anyway... Why not get yourself a nice stroker kit?

6.1's is the way to go homey total agreement here... doesn't really matter what you do if u run the **** out of ur truck like i do it will break like mine always is but we have fun dont we GG

good to know about the springs!! I will change my mind on those, im mainly wanting power for the street and towing, i have a handheld programmer. As for the stroker kit, im hoping i dont have to do the pistons or anything like that

when u say 6.1L exhasut springs, does that mean like use the exhaust springs for the intake to??? Or do u get the 6.1L exhaust aprings AND the 6.1L Intake springs

Use exhaust springs for both. Sounds weird, but it works and they'll be bullet proof with that cam.

yeah, the comp beehives have a poor reputation, supposedly they are fixed now. Manley's have an awesome reputation, but so do the 6.1s at a fraction of the cost. Good move to go to the 6.1s...
That's a decent low end torque cam, you should like it. Decent gains while not needing a custom tune. You should be happy with that setup...

just curious, how many miles do you have on your truck?
