'05 Ticking Noise
Yeah, same here, and it really puts me in a bad mood. It just doesn't make sense. I just buy this beautiful dodge ram truck with 27,000 miles on it, yet it sounds like its 10 years old. A motor that new should just be silent and purring away. When I first start my truck in the morning, it takes about a couple of minutes before the ticking sound starts to really pick up. Then after about 5-10 minutes of a really loud annoying ticking sound, it starts to settle down just a little bit, but it never goes away, and it really, REALLY pisses me off.
I feel your pain, this just really started on Saturday and has been really bugging me since. I talked to a good friend of mine who worked for a Ford dealership and he told me to try an engine treatment Sea foam. He thinks it sounds like a lifter but in past experiences he has been able to get rid of the noise with that treatment. I am due for an oil change and am going to try it tonight and I will let you know what the out come is.
How is the cold starting problem going? Still happening, any improvement?
Still starts like **** every morning on the first start. This morning I engaged the fuel pump and let it sit for about 10 seconds. Although it didn't take as many turns to get it to start, it started rough. It's little things like this that **** me off. For such a young motor, I'm very surprised to see these kinds of things happening as you would with a vehicle that has over 100k miles. So something is defiantly wrong with the fuel pump, and I'll have to drop my truck off AGAIN, which I hate doing because it ties my truck up and pisses my brother off. As for my ticking noise, it seems to be really annoying in the morning when it's first starting to warm up, but it kind of subsides once the truck is out and about all day, isn't much I can really do about it, nobody is going to want to open up a motor that is functioning properly.
Dang bro...I really hate to hear you having so much trouble. That is one good looking truck and low miles too, man who would have ever thunk it! I have a 05 with over 100k on the clock and mine runs like a new one. I guess you never know. Well, I hope you figure something out and it all works out good for you.
I know it man. It doesn't help that I'm a perfectionist though, I mean I'm really up there when it comes to things needing to be perfect. The truck runs amazing, but it's just that darn tick sound, and the hard starts. Other than that, I love every minute of driving the truck, it's just a complete blast. Can't wait to hear some rumble with the throttle!
So its been 2 days with no ticking!!! I put Sea Foam in my oil and ran it for 10 minutes, then drained it and put in a Synthetic Blend 5-20. I also put Lucas injector cleaner in my tank, and I haven't had a problem since.
I dropped the truck off tonight with the used car dealership so they can have it in the morning to test the rough cold starts in the morning. I've noticed that when the cold starts don't take a lot of turning over, they are just choppy. But even today when I went to go start the truck, it took about five straight seconds of turning over to start it up. So It's being dropped off to have that looked at, as well as a leak I noticed I have. At first I just kept thinking I was feeling things, but now that I've gone through a few car washes and rainstorms, I'm defiantly getting a slight leak coming from my driver side pillar near the windshield. It leaks out of that oval insert in the pillar, very bizarre. I'll keep you all updated with how it goes.
