Performance wise its better than a new set of gears in the rear (me coming from a set of 4.56's and then adding the converter says a lot right there). Haven't had it on a dyno to see where its at now but the gains were noticeable right away the first time I sunk my foot into it. It is still my favorite mod that I have done so far. Just be sure you get the "Race Version" of the converter. The other one does not give you any more power to the rear tires it just ups the stall from stock and uses the same hp robbing components that your stock converter uses.

You know, there should be a warning on the front page of the forum, “this site may be hazardous to your bank account.” There is a lot of stuff that I’ve gotten, that I would have never have thought of, if it wasn’t for this site. To make my point, I’ve decided that I think I’m going to get a new TC as well, along with a new cam. But to get back on topic, my question is about the shift kits. I read that they firm up and quicken the shifts, but are they ok to use with the trans tuning from a programmer, like SC or DSP?

*Also, I forgot to add, I see there are two different kits. What is the difference between the regular shift kit and the reprogramming kits? And which is the one to get, or the better kit?

You want the HD2 Reprogram kit, that one will give you the oerformance gains, the other is a repair kit more or less. As for working with a programmer, I have heard a few different answers to that. The reprogram kit comes with a resistor which ups the line pressure but so do the tuners, somew have said that there is nothing to worry about or have put the resistor on a toggle switch specificly for at the track whle others completely omit it and say that it will raise the line pressure to much and will cause major problems. Personally I do not know which one is true or not as people have done them both ways but when I drop the pan in a few weeks to fix a leak I will be adding one in without the resistor for now and see how things go.

Also do not expect neck snapping shifts either, most only notice minimal gains from them but the way I see it is these parst are suppose to be a stronger version over stock so eventhough the neck snapping shifts are ify at best the fact that they are stronger parts make up for it.

I talked with Andre at Edge and he said the Race edition only stalled at 3400 or higher, so he set me up with 'street edge' at 2800. I mentioned you guys suggested the race edition to me but he told me 99% of ram guys go with street and love it, so I hope it's what I needed, I went ahead and ordered one!
Also with the shift kits, transgo has one for Dakota, does anyone know if this is a good upgrade to go with? I don't know if there is a reprogram kit offered. But I figure if someone recommends a shift kit to me I will get it and have it installed with the TC.

IMO I think he's lieing out his *** on that one since I know quite a few guys who have had the "race version" on a 3000 stall or less (they build it to what you want/need). The issue with the "street" version is that it does not free up rwhp, they even say it right in there ads (look at the two ads for the street and race version). It ups the stall from stock and may replace a few components inside to make it run a little cooler but that is about it.

Okay I got it worked out, he said the street version IS the race version basically, once he customizes it. And the Mild street version is the one that is only a little better than stock. Thanks for the info, and motivation basically to get another mod.

are you installing yourself, or taking it to a shop? its really not that hard to do if you can get access to a lift. and if you do that, you might as well install the transgo HD2 while the tranny is out.

someone here in the 3rd gen ram section wrote some really awesome tutorials on those two things. i heard the guy was a total BAMF (Bad A$$ Mother F#@*er)

Yeah I was planning on doing both things at the same time... BUT I am a bit of a noob with transmissions. I've only installed exhaust, throttle body, electronics, and the basic stuff. I'll check out the tutorial to see if it's in my talent range or not...

BAMF..... stop please stop.... My sides are hurting too much...

Just curious trucky, how does the dakota's trans stack up withthe rams? Is it the same or similar? I dont know how a converter thats made for the HEMI trucks is going to work with your dakota.
