Lowered Trucks: tech and info....
Just cause this is the thread...heres my truck
04 single/short 1500 5.7 Auto 4WD
Suspension (rear) is spring under WITH overload and stock shackle and cranked torsions in front. Its the least amount of drop you get by putting the axle on top of the leafs.
I cant index the torsions without cutting the bumpstop (their literally in the way) so thats my next project....to cut bumpstops and index the bars in the front and notch and add a shackle to the rear. Even with the overload spring in the rear, it bottoms out every time I drive it. Iv got a shorter polyurethane bumpstop in the rear.
Ballistic fabrication sells leaf spring perches for the 3.5 inch axle tube. I spent less than $40 for the flip in the rear.

in photobucket it says img code beside the codes your truck looks sick thats why i want more pics....and with those i can use em on the under side of my axle and use the rest of the stock stuff?.....do you have pics of the flip in your rear?
are those stock wheels...what your height from the ground to your top of fenderwell in the center...and you say you bottom out alot or no....you have any more pics of that thing...it looks great....sorry im bombing you with questions but i just gotaa know...also you just lowered your t-bars in the front? right

I started and ended with about 1* of pinion angle.
just remember to weld it. this IS NOT a bolt in kit with little pieces that push up against the stock spring perches that hold the diff housing from spinning.
These posts are about what I did. Im NOT a MFG nor do I have lots of R&D done on these trucks. Therefore I CANNOT be responsible if anyone does this and breaks their ****. my trucks not that low really
-Their 22 inch DIP wheels with 305/40-22 goodyears.
-I bottom out A LOT
-torsion bar adjuster bolts are NOT pressing on the torsion keys. they are as low as they will go without cutting the bumpstops and indexing the bars.
oh i know...im thinking ill buy 2" drop spindles and do this to my rear and be good with it...i talked to a buddy who does this stuff nonstop and he said it will be the best idea i could go with....cause a spindle kit is gonna cost alot more and do the same thing...the most i might have to do is get longer shackles....if i want but we will try it with stocks first...hmmm cant wait.....
Different shocks wont drop the truck.
springs hold the truck up
shocks dampen the ride
if you have coils why dont you cut them. cut coils and flip the axle. cheap cheap. Plenty of people hate on cut springs but iv done it a bunch.
The key to it all is leaving adequate wheel travel before the truck bottoms out, whether it bottoms on suspension or actually hits the ground. leave 3 or 4 inches between components (lets say axle and frame) so they can articulate when you drive and youll keep a nice ride.
