Help with 5.7 timing chain replacement
Hey guys, a buddy of mine would like to replace his timing chain and water pump and hoses sometime soon, he's a bit over 100k miles. I'm just looking for any part numbers or information any of you might have for a timing chain and gaskets necessary to do this.

That have OEM replacements and being most guys never change thier chains and go well up into some very high mileage, I think they are just fine to keep.
I did a double roller on my custom built SBO 350 for my 442. But you have to understand it has TRW flat top fordged pistons, 100 shot of Nos, shot peened beams, halo girdle on the bottom, E-brock RPM cam/carb/intake and a Comp Cams adjustable VT, By point is it (IMO) needed a double roller because of the stress I was going to put on it and high RPMs. If you arent building an all-out engine then I think the OEM chain is fine for you. I mean, the last one got you past 100k didnt it? Besides, not only would you need the chain but the sprockets to go with it (upper and lower).

That is what i was thinking. 100k miles is the norm for most car companies service interval for timing belts. But timing chains? I don't recall EVER seeing a car company including timing chain replacement into a service schedule. Doing a water pump change seems a bit excessive too. But a to do a timing chain at 100k miles (in my opinion) is nothing more then a waste of time and money. I work with a guy with an 04' Ram who is nearing 180,000 miles and the whole engine is original with the exception of the fan belt.

What happened to you was simply bad luck with a part. Like throwing a rod under normal driving. If the timing chains were truly a flawed part, you would be hearing a lot more about people with timing chan issues. And i for one have not heard of many.
