Default A Few electric fan questions.

1.I have a 3.8l ford fan. I bought the flex-a-lite adujstable temperature control kit #31147. Will this thing be able to handle the amps from that fan? I plan on using just the high speed.

2.Which ignition controlled power source would be the best to tap into so the controller comes on when I crank the engine?

3.Should I use a inline fuse holder between the battery and ATC and if so what amp size/style fuse holder should I use.

4.Do I need a diode? How do I use it?

I am really excited about this mod because it is the first thing I have done to any vehicle besides my nerf bars and oil changes.

DO NOT USE HIGH SPEED!!
It is not needed and draws over 40 amps. The low speed will cool just fine. High speed was used on the Ford, because the a/c condenser is in front of the radiator, not separate like on the Ram. It only used High when the a/c was on. It cycled on low speed to cool the engine.

I use a resetable car stereo circuit breaker between the battery and controller relay on mine that I have on the Mustang. No Diode used on mine.
I would fuse it about 40 amps using the low speed.

Thanks man! I Still am confused about my second question.

Which ignition controlled power source would be the best to tap into so the controller comes on when I crank the engine?

I think I am going to splice it with one of the two power outlets that work when the truck is on.

I haven't done mine yetowever, I was thinking of just wiring it directly from the battery, Fused of course. When the controller goes below certain temp it will trigger the relay off anyways and it won't take long for it to drop below that temp anyways/

I used the cigar lighter wire. Here is the wiring diagram I used for mine http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...cfan/index.php.

That mustang job has been helpful so far. Too bad I am still stuck like chuck on my fan clutch. I might have to make a spanner bar. I am going to take some metal pipe , drill some holes to match the water pump pully. Put some long screws through it and pray like hell.

Got the clutch fan and shroud off. mounted the fan inside the shroud all tonight. My neighbors must think I am on meth working all night. Tomorrow i'm going to radio shack to get what I need as far as wireing. I am going to use the car stereo breaker thing that got suggested. Thanks for that man.

You really should, And make sure you fuse both sides of the relay.
