Find a 2003 donor truck. That will be the closest thing to your 2002. Grab the PCM, TCM, all the harness you can and maybe the driveshaft. If you have the 2003 Ram eng/trans harness(es), it might actually be close to a plug and play.

Do you know your emissions laws? I know here in Ohio as long as the vehicle was offered with a particular engine you are allowed to swap in that engine but you can run into trouble trying to put a V8 in an S-10 or something like that beacause the emissions for that vehicle will exceed what it put out in stock form. Just a thought.

 

well i have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 with the 4.7L v8, and i know that the hemis really didnt make there way into the rams until late 03/early 04, so because my truck is a 3rd gen and thats the gen that the hemis came out for the ram, should mean im ok, just gonna have fun talking to the dmv, cuz my mechanic i usually take all my vehicles to should pass me no problem




i cant actually do that, cuz i already have a 2005 hemi and trans out of a durango, i wish i could have found out that the harnesses were combined in 04 a little earlier, but i guess the extra work will be worth it, just need to find the wiring diagrams for that hemi and for my harness, so i can start splicing, told there was 44 i had to do total!

 

Take tons of pics, and make sure you post up regularly with progress updates. There are always tons of guys who talk about doing this swap but very few who go through with it. Info from your swap would probably help others realize exactly what goes into taking on this project.

 

Just put you 4.7 airbox on when you go in for inspection.

yes sir-y.. my truck is a 03 4.7L.. My cousin previously owned it and some how blew it.. So he wanted to put a HEMI in it. So he bought a HEMI enigine and didn't think about the tranny or the pcm/wiring.. ended up just putting another 4.7L. I want to someday do it to my 03 since it's swapped already so please put pics up ands show exact details on how everything is coming along through the process. Good luck man!!!

ok im gonna second that reply about the 4.7L airbox, cuz well first off i dont have it anymore, but if i did and did in fact put it back on for an inspection, what would be the difference, cuz yes the vin and build sheet show it as being a 4.7, but one look at that engine from 100 feet away and i knew it was a hemi, so im sure a mechanic whos works on many every year would see it and know what it was, plus the emissions test would give up the secret under the hood too! guess im wondering where it was going with that idea?!
