and bern I guess emmisions is different from Kansas. They look at the Vin, see what motor it should be, look at the motor, whatever it says and if it matches and it weights near what it should then you pass.
There are emissions tests in Kansas? I've never had one since I've had my Dodge. The only thing was a VIN inspection when I bought the truck since it came from Missouri.

Good luck on the engine swap, you're most likely one of the only few guys in a 2002 who can boast a HEMI badge. (Because I'm not sure if there have been swaps in '02s before or not.)

wow i wish we had it that easy, but the guy i usually have inspect it should be surprised to see a hemi under the hood now! but i should be fine, cuz its from the same generation that the hemi was introduced into the rams, and im running the same cat crossover y pipe that came stock until i get it inspected, then ill swap in the complete dual catless exhaust i have now on it, it was from summit and it sounded awesome, cant beat 3" duals!!

yeah im pretty sure i have never heard of one either from friends, co-workers, or online anywhere, im guessing the main reason is that the hemi wasnt introduced until late 03/early 04, so in the 02's everything has to be modified, from the wiring to the oil pan and so on, so its quite the task, but not impossible, just need the right know how and the right tools helps too!

I actually believe the Hemi came out early 2003. My truck says that it was built 02/03 and my build sheet does show that it came with the Hemi.
And stated on this site, quite some time ago, you can swap your engine out for any engine later put in that vehicle, as production. So you can't put a 6.1 Hemi in, but you should have no problem with a 5.7. And if they tried to get after you for it, you said that your engine blew up, and it was more economical for you to go with the Hemi.

Mid model year 2003, to be exact. The 5.9 and the 5.7 overlapped in 2003. Bern, I didn't know you wanted a 2005, do you want the ram or durango manual?

Can't wait to see more details on this. I'm waiting on my 4.7 to let go and will be putting a hemi in. Just taking in as much info as possible beforehand right now.

this is interesting. If my 5.9 ever went. Which will probably outlast any hemi. I would probably replace it with a Hemi. I can't wait to see some updates!.

This is where you are going to run into some issues. At least here, the engine has to be found in the same model year the vehicle was released or newer so you should be fine in that regard, however, you have to go through all the red tape to have it re-registered so the vin reflects an engine change. If you dont do that, come emmision testing they will slap you with a nice fine and will not allow you to go through the test till it is registered with the correct information. So in other words, make sure you check your state laws regarding engine swaps and registration!!!!!

Other than that, it sounds like a fun project.... Good luck and Take as many pics as possible!!!!

Only because very different things happen when you floor a 5.9 than when you floor a hemi.
