Anyone ever replaced a TCC solenoid?
My check engine light came on today while on the way to work. I scanned it and found code P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Soleniod Circuit Malfunction. My RPMs on the highway have been fluctuating about 200 or so RPMs every once in a while and I think its because the torque converter clutch is engaging and disengaging but I wasn't 100% sure. So I guess I'm not suprised to see this code but feel a little more reassured that the solenoid is probably the problem. So anyways my question is has anyone ever replaced the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid? I think I read somewhere that you have to remove the trans pan obviously and then unbolt the valve body and its in there... is this correct? I am a GM mechanic so I will do the work myself. Thanks!Steve

check fluid in neutral.. at operating temp, after manually shifting gears from P to 1 and back to N w/ three or four second pause between each gear..
the solenoid is butt **** simple to swap.. buy one from a DEALER.. don't mess with the goofy parts store versions that don't meet specs..
it will take you an hour or so from start to finish, including clean-up.. you might as well swap the pressure sensor and the speed sensor while your in there too- get those from a dealer as well.. and a new gasket and filter..
drop the pan (getting wet and nasty in the process, sorry- that's just the nature of these things).. remove the filter.. look for solenoids that look like the solenoids you just bought from 'yon DEALER.. swap 'em.. reverse order installing new filter and gasket..
only use AT+4 fluid.. to refill.. refill..
one thing you may want to do while your this far: install drain plug in the tranny pan.. makes servicing the thing a TON easier in the future..
Button it up, do an operational check... spend the next half hour cleaning up.. go on your merry way.. It's an easy job.
