you dont need a tuner and you dont need a body lift, thats 600+ right there. you can nitto terra grapplers in 35s for around 900.

Just the level kit is going to rub on sharp turns/hills/bumps, so yeah I'm gonna need to do the body lift eventually, and the tuner since I am going from 20s to 17s

Again, you won't need the tuner (if you are only buying it for speedo recalibration and NOT the performance benefits) unless the TIRE diameter changes. For example going from a 33x12.5x20 to a 33x12.5x17 would NOT need any recalibration, but going from a 33x12.5x20 to a 35x12.5x17 (or a 35x12.5x20 for that matter) would need it...

Well that's not the only reason I wanted it, it was just an excuse to get it NOW haha.

So with the 20 inch tire on the 33s...going to a 3 inch smaller rim (17s), but going up to 35s...Why wouldn't that make the tire+rim actually SMALLER, and able to fit without the level kit/body lift?

but yeah im going from my 33 inch tire to the 35s, so i would need the tuner, unless what I said above is actually right, which would amaze me.

A 35" tire is a 35" tire! In the case of the 35x12.5x17s the hole in the middle is 17" in diameter. In the case of the 35x12.5x20s the center hole is 20". The tire is still 35" in diameter either way.

So to answer your question NO a 33" tire on a 20" wheel is still 33" high, same as it would be on a 15" wheel. A 35" tire has a diameter of 35" (or really anywhere from 34.x to 35.x depending on manufacturer) no matter what size wheel it was made for!

That's why we talked about the importance of sidewall for flexing. A 33" tire on say a 22" wheel looks like a rubber band stretched around the rim (next to no sidewall), but that same 33" tire on a 17" would have much more sidewall. Tire is still 33" in diameter, but the hole in the middle is HUGE on the 22 when compared to the 17". Get it?
