Default My Experience With my Sound System.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum.

I recently got a sound system installed into my truck and wanted to share my experiences with it.

The box i had was a no-name custom made box that's made from MDF and silicone. Not much airspace in it. I was going to opt for the fox box but they weren't going to be ready for another month or two.

Subwoofers are 2 - 12" Kenwood Excelons 1000 watts each.

The Amp is a 2400 watt monoblock Performance Teknique after further research though, the RMS power is only about 1,000 watts.

2 6x9" Pioneers in the front and 2 6 1/2" PIoneers in the back.

Entire system wired into the stock head unit.

Total price for system installed $900

So basically I'm pretty dissapointed considering my friends single 12" in his chevy blazer with a 1,000 watt amp hits HARD. Much harder than anything i've been in and definately harder than mine. HIs system is not cleaner, and doesn't have the same range but it hits harder.

I blew 2 subwoofers so far but played it off at the store like It was their fault. (They replaced both free of charge) However, it was my fault for not setting the gain correctly.

Gain on the amp is absolute ****. It's difficult to set the levels properly with my amplifier. It seems as though it always wants to distort and I had to spend a lot of time getting it correct. Then again, i'm new to this but i've never had an experience quite like this one.

Certain songs hit very hard, and others barely hit at all. I"m always adjusting the bass levels because i'm scared of blowing another subwoofer.
The bass doesn't hit as hard when i'm moving.

WHen i'm standing still though, with the bass levels all the way up and the volume levels barely at 18 it seems to hit extremely hard. When I turn the volume up and adjust the bass accordingly, it hits harder but seems to have the same hit at the peak.

Once again, some songs don't hit. Whereas with my friends system basically anything you throw into the CD player will hit.

I'm very pleased with the speakers and their clarity. They're 4 way speakers and the sound quality in them is amazing. Also, the bass you can get out of those 6x9's is insane! Especially for being wired into the stock unit.

They're not as loud as i'd like them to be, but that's because they're wired to the stock unit with no amplifier. Very surprised by the performance of the pioneer speakers.

I'm basically sure that it's the ****ty amplifier and my failure to get the in-dash headunit or some sort of aftermarket head unit that makes the subwoofers not output that well.

So the lessons that I can give out of this so far is NOT to skimp on the amplifier.

If you weren't looking for pounding bass, but just a little more sound quality then DEFINATELY go with the pioneer 4 way speaker swap. Even with everything else remaining stock it sounds amazing.

The excelons seem like GOOD subs. When they hit they hit SURPRISINGLY hard. IT's just the ****ty amplifier that can't seem to give a clean signal no matter what.

You get what you pay for and Im not trying to be mean but even with all the years ive been in car audo, ive never heard of that amp. I think you are on the right track and already know you need to find something more quality and reputable.

You should post some pics. If nothing else they should be of your truck and the 7" lift you got.

Dang, that sucks...I do all my own installs and they all work out great, I've put multiple systems in friend's cars and trucks, and just recently added another 10" to mine, I'm running all RockFord Fosgate and this stuff is strong, no problems

Yeah weedahoe, I'm pretty unhappy with the amp. What type of amplifier would you reccommend?

Do you have shallows? Or did you fit full size subs somehow in the back.

Kicker makes good stuff.
You bass will vary with the stock head unit becaus eas you increase the volume, the bass level starts to drop. This is to protect the factory speakers.
